Alexander got out of the car and strode over to the distant figure.
“How did you arrive here? You have no right to be here, and no business with me or my family,” Alexander shouted at the still distant figure.
“Yes I believe I do Alexander,” A voice whispered behind his ear. Alexander spun on his heel and instinctually grabbed a hold of the man’s throat. As he turned the figure that had miraculously appeared behind him punched him viciously in the nose. As Alexander fell releasing his grip on the man’s throat. The figure stepped over him and stared him in the face.
“I missed you Alexander. We used to have so much fun, you and I. Whatever happened to us? You had me locked away in their dungeons and then you found your way here. You honestly believed that would be the end of me?” The figure’s voice was like the scratching of sandpaper.
Alexander reached up and grabbed the figure’s jacket. He pulled fiercely on it and gave the figure a savage head butt. As the figure clutched his skull Alexander stood up.
“I came here because this is my home, I do not know how you made it here but I intend to send you back,” Alexander growled. This was bad, and Alexander knew it. Nothing was supposed to be able to cross the veil. Alexander himself only made the trip after decades of exploring, and an immense amount of luck. This man’s presence was surely an ill omen.
“Now is that any way to treat an old friend?” The figure taunted as he seemed to flow back along the road several yards. “Besides the last time I checked the score was still in your favor, or did you forget this?” The figure wrenched away the black scarf that had until now covered much of his face to reveal a deep jagged scar that ran from the figure’s temple, over the right eye, down the cheek, and cutting across both lips. It sat there like a grotesque mountain range upon the man’s pale face. He stood there, his skin pale as the fallen snow, and seemingly stretched over his skull. With eyes full of hatred, his iris’ the color of blood, long black hair lay matted and greasy under a large wide brimmed hat.
“It’s time to settle this Alexander,” The creature grinned.
“Yes it is time to put an end to this, leech,” Alexander spat. His voice rife with malice
“I’m going to enjoy squeezing the life out of you,” The creature growled as he started toward Alexander, who in turn also began to pace toward the creature. It started as a fast pace then a trot, finally the two figures sprinted at the other, enmity charged the air as the two warriors raced headlong into bitter combat. Suddenly as Alexander and the creature were within arms length of each other the creature’s form became unsteady, like a television image that had been interrupted by bad weather, it burst into smoke and flowed through Alexander’s outstretched fingers. Alexander was caught off guard and began to fall forward but an arm wrapped around his throat and squeezed with the killing strength of a great snake. The creature had regained his solid composure behind Alexander and had put him into a choke hold.
“Do your family even know who you are? Do they know the things you’ve seen, and done? I would suppose not, no that’s not your style is it? Save others the suffering of your past and protect the innocent, right? You always did enjoy playing the martyr,” The creature whispered into Alexander’s ear as he gradually tightened his grip. Alexander was seeing spots, and was beginning to feel light headed as he struggled against the iron bar that was his opponent’s arm.
“The best way,” He gasped, “To be rid of a leech,” he continued trying to draw a breath with minimal success. “Is to burn it!” Alexander roared with a burst of energy and raw emotion. Alexander wrenched at the arm and turned himself viciously until he faced his enemy. He then shoved his palm into the face of the creature, a burst of flame erupted from Alexander’s palm and into the creature’s face with a roar reminiscent of some saurian beast. With a scream of agony the creature fell to his knees clutching his face before slamming it into the cold snow in a vain attempt to cool his wounds. Alexander stood staring at his enemy coldly. Suddenly Alexander spun to his left and wrapped his arm around the back of someone else’s neck while simultaneously launching a vicious knee strike into the solar plexus of this new enemy. The blade the newcomer had held slipped from it’s limp fingers. The body fell to the ground unceremoniously as Alexander let go.
“I see you’ve made a pet,” Alexander commented as cold as the snow that lay beneath his feet.
“You assume he made just the one,” A voice whispered sweetly as Alexander felt a sharp pain lance through his chest. Suddenly breathing became very hard for him. It felt as though his lung had deflated somehow and was growing heavier in the right side of his chest. He drew a shuddering breath as he tried to process all these curious new experiences. That was when he felt it, something cold scraping against his rib at the top of his own solar plexus. Alexander looked down to find a dull silver spattered in deep dark red poking out of his chest. The deathly red stain spread through his white shirt quickly as the silver blade shot back into him and out the entry wound of his back. Alexander fell to his knees gasping for air feebly. The creature walked over into Alexander’s rapidly diminishing sight, his face still smoking. The creature grabbed Alexander’s hair and knelt down pulling Alexander closer to him.
“Look at what you’ve done to me,” The creature screamed into Alexander’s face. Alexander stared at the grotesque face before him. Badly burnt flesh, his hair almost entirely burned off, lidless sockets held yellow eyes that matched the teeth in his now lipless mouth. The jagged scar still prominent on his face.
“Personally, I think it’s an improvement for you,” Alexander wheezed.
“I want to kill you, but I will let you live for now, so that you may hear the screams of your terrified children as they are slaughtered like the sheep they would inevitably become,” The creature taunted as he released Alexander’s hair and walked away.
“Leave, them, out, of this, Sepesch,” Alexander shuddered. Sepesch the creature turned and stared at him with amusement as the two creature’s flanking him began to laugh.
“On second thought, Lacedes, you finish the little ones, I wish to watch his agony,” Sepesch ordered. The smaller of the two creature’s smirked as she turned to walk away.
“Sepesch I warn you now leave them be, or face your judgement,” Alexander said with a fledgling strength growing within him.
“Bastion, help her,” Sepesch ordered of the other creature.
“Their just children, what trouble would Lacedes have?” The creature replied.
“Nonetheless they are his children, that fact alone makes them dangerous,” Sepesch answered.
Without a word Bastion turned and followed Lacedes, each taking a different side of the car.
