Anti-Semitic Trolls on Gothic.net
 

Okay, for the past few months I've really been noticing an undercurrent of anti-Semitism on this site.

Originally I thought it was simply because we have some ardent Atheists, and a couple of very outspoken radical leftists, (Israel is a popular target for those who are against Bush and the "war on terror") but I'm starting to think this may run deeper than socio-political posturing.

For those of you who know me, I'm very liberal. I am all for free speech and extremely opposed to censorship. It's also pretty difficult to offend me, so when I tell you that I am honestly disturbed by some of the stuff which has been linked here, I want you to understand my full meaning.

Now I'm not sure what, if anything, should actually be done about it (at least at this point) I just really don't want to see these forums become a haven for hate-speech like Dev.iant.art. I'm sure the site owners agree with me, since they go through so much trouble to censor words referring to groups like the K.K.K. (a practice which I have criticized in the past, and no doubt will continue to criticize).

I'm not saying we can't talk about the political policies of Israel or Zionism, and I'm certainly not saying we can't criticize a religion. I'm just saying, is this really the direction we want to take as a web-community?

Eclipsing The Son has taken to trolling on how evil Jews are but made a thread just like this one saying we are too hard on Mormons.

Well, I wasn't going to name names because they've shown themselves to simply be trolls, but I'm talking about Eclipsing the Son (scroll down to the bottom of the page, and check out the next page).

Though at first I thought he was just a hardcore racist, looking at his and Helpmann's posts, I can tell they're both just trolling, and found that racism has struck a nerve with some members.

Basically I would've PM'd this but once again, I can't send PMs, so I brought it to the community.

I'm not a racist as much as I'm against the tactics of the Jewish culture to twist the completely harmless religious rites of other cultures into some kind of legal wrong doings. I do not appose the race of the Jewish people but I am against many of the extremely disrespectful beliefs and practices they take part in.

Legal wrongdoings? They didn't take any legal action whatsoever, just said "We're peeved, you guys lied to us."

I'm not exactly sure what, but if these forums replace K.lu K.lu K.lan with Mickey Mouse Klub, and Censor out r@pe and lo.li they should goddamn well do something when trolls are being blatantly racist, and linking youtube videos title: "This is why People HATE Jews" with comments on them about Hitler being a great man responding to Jewish aggression.

Plus--if people here are racist, who the fuck are you to say they shouldn't be? I don't agree with it, but it's not my business to tell them they can't be or that they can't talk about it.

I support freedom of speech, so I really can't say anything about people expressing racist views on the internet. I despise racism and always will. In my opinion, people can say what ever they feel like at the time. If EtS feels like it, then he can do so. Just like any other forum user can choose to be an irrational idiot.

I'm saying if we have to put up with all this regulation from the site when it doesn't matter, we should at least get the benefit of that regulation when it does.

Some people can self-filter what they are exposed to, others either get shocked or want to make a production of how offended they are.

I don't think there is anything morally questionable about calling someone out for being racist or spouting off ignorant trash. Pushing for censorship is lame though.

Considering you don't know why Desp made this post in the first place would be a good reason not to necro old shit. At the time a guy made a very similar post about "Religious Intolerance On Gnet", because me and Desp made posts criticizing the Mormon practice of proxy baptism, and then the guy posted a video about how evil Jews are, so Desp made this one. Thats why Jillian said "Let this die before people take it out of context," so we let it die, and you dig it up and take it out of context anyway.

Jillian's point was to let the thread die because of its embarrassment, and guess what? It did. Then you revive it many months later and yet state you agree with Jillian. It seems very contradictory on your part.

I disagree. They are all comparable in terms of intelligence. Most of the intelligent one's on this board do not identify as goths, and just acknowledge that they have interests that overlap. i.e. music, literature.
