I always Celtic Frost were more black metal than Gothic?

wunky 06-06-2006 03:34 AM

they are black metal, or at least they were, but a) they've mellowed out and b) their lyrics have got more adventurous.

they are 'gothic' in the sense of big atmospheres, dark lyrics and the iamgery usually associated with goth that they liberally use, rather than the 'bauhaus' gothic.

Indeed. I've heard some songs from this new album but wasn't much impressed. The melodies are very repetitive and too Thrashy for my taste. Dunno, there's nothing gothic about it at all. Then again if you consider dark lyrics and big atmosphere pretty much all metal is gothic.

tdf,

I reccomend that you have a listen to the following Celtic Frost releases, as these releases are their best works, and are classics in their genre !!!.

Morbid Tales (1984)

To Mega Therion (1986)

Into the Pandemonium (1987)

Also ...

Hellhammer `Apocalyptic raids` (very influential, and hard to get E.P)

The Best of Celtic Frost (compilation)

See if you can download a song called `Circle of the Tyrants` or `Morbid Tales` and see what you think !!!
