What Songs Make You Sad?

Here, you will name the songs that strike your emotions the most. Any song that relates to you in some way and evokes emotion from you is greatly welcome.

I will start:

One song that seems to strike a nerve in me is "Love/Tragedy" by The Crüxshadows, as well as "Mad World" Gary Jules' version.

'Breathing', 'Bertie' & 'Night Scented Sock' by Kate Bush. Especially 'Bertie' as it was written for her son & it's just very....loving.

'Lithium' & 'Understanding' by Evanescence. 'Bless The Child' by Nightwish. It's mainly Metal songs that get me. Although there was a song played on Torchwood last night that got me. Don't know who did it though.

Down in a hole - Alice In Chains.

Definitely strikes a minor chord...

Oh, and back when I listed to KoRn the song "Counting on Me" made me cry the first few times I heard it >_> Lame, I know, but it actually has some emotional lyrics to it.

Disintegration - The Cure

Such an unbelievably powerful song. I get really into it when I'm singing along at home. It makes me nearly shed a tear every time.

Kamrusepas 12-12-2006 02:24 PM

Mein Gott, the list would be longer than.... you know, something really long. Plus I don't like to mention those songs to people, in case they hate them [or even worse, like them] and see them differently and I'm afraid they'll lose their meaning. Or something. I know it doesn't make sense, I often don't.

Company Calls Epilouge by Death Cab For Cutie
Dear Jamie....Sincerely Me by Hellogoodbye
Me and the Moon by Something Corporate

Nothing lame about it. I have it on my iPod.
One song that makes me very sad is Even Angels Fall, by The Cruxshadows. Rogue's voice at the end seems about to break down.
Another song that makes me cry is the finale in Edward Scissorhands.
But the one that really gets my waterworks going is Tchaikovsky's Symphony number six in B minor.

Leper Lord by Death in June. Something about that songs melody really puts it in this category. My next choice is Souvenirs by Life in sodom. If that song wont put you in a introspective mood no song will. And third is Pale shelter by Tears for fears from tha album The Hurting. This album is a musical masterpiece for those who have never heard it.

hehe the only song that ever made me sad was the video for Seize the Day from Avenged Sevenfold. wasnt a good song but the video was pretty sad/funny

Forever Came Today by Shadow Project. In the right conditions that song will bring me to tears by the time the intro ends.

Draconysius 12-12-2006 07:01 PM

Um, I watched an anime-style flash music video today to the background of Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me". Now I have the song stuck in my head and it's... T_T really getting to me. I may not even believe in love, but... I miss it so much.
Sorry for the angst, bats.

Wish you were here- Incubus...it makes me so fecking sad!

Slap Your Love 12-13-2006 05:26 AM

That would be a long list, but No Human Can Drown by Clan of Xymox tends to made me sad alot, although I love it.

Switchblade Symphony-Wiccan Lullaby
I do not know why.

Godslayer Jillian 12-13-2006 03:58 PM

Maybe because it does give a melancholy remembrance of when our mothers sang to us to lull us to sleep.
Very beautiful song.

Lurcita 12-13-2006 04:08 PM

Wish you were here-pink floyd
eraser-nine inch nails
mad mad world- gary jules

Cruxshadows-where is my angel

Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd

Minyaliel 12-14-2006 07:11 AM

For me, it's the soundtrack of "Edward Scissorhands" - I always cry so much when hearing that music, and see the movie, that I may seem totally disturbed to most people...

Apart from that, here's a small list:

"Våren", Edward Grieg (that's a long story, don't ask)
"Liebesträume", Schumann
Several songs by Pink Floyd, including "Comfortably Numb" and "Wish you were here"
Celtic Women - "Send Me a Song"
Robbie Williams - "Angels"
One of the songs from the Titanic soundtrack, "Hymn to the Sea"

But then, it's usually quite easy to make me cry... I'm very emotional.

Round here - Counting Crows
Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley
Hurt - Nine Inch Nails
My immortal - Evanescence
Alone I break - Korn
House of Cards - Zeromancer
Bare - The Cure

These are the ones I can name off the top of my head while here at work.

Splintered 12-21-2006 02:38 PM

Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden - When the Eagle Cries
It just touches an exposed nerve.

cradle 12-21-2006 02:49 PM

The cure-trust
This song makes me feel bleak and lonely. D:

Heilige Scheisse! That one gets me too, every time. The same goes for 'The Honour of Silence' from the same album.

No idea on that one.

Quite right on that! I've seen 'Mad World' mentioned quite a few times already here, but it's always the Gary Jules version. Hasn't anybody heard the original? When it came out it was my favorite song. But that whole album is one of my top favorites of all time, often in my top 10. Certainly an honorary goth classic, if not technically a goth album.
