"Purgatory" and "the Rites of Sin"

"Purgatory"
there was a time
when i could see
only wonder
surrounding me

but shrunken faces
came crashing down
no simple pleasure
to be found

taught to receive
the kingdom of god
avoid everything
that comes out odd

don't need a saviour
no solid base
just a ticket to
another place

taught to memorize
shapes and patterns
until my eyes
start to feel shattered

measure my knowledge
in a water glass
and see that nothing
is learned but crass

when will I see
a different light here
the centurians
just want to fight here

and I will never be
acceptable
maybe because I'm
incapable

bass interlude:
they'd honor me with blood on my hands
as long as it were in the name the man
they speak in forked tongues about their sons
when in reality they touch no one
I will never be part of the fall
I will never be part of the fall!

"the Rites of Sin"
perched upon the altar waiting
giving more than he is taking
he never sees the light of day
he doesn't know it anyway

locked inside a coffin scraping
no hopes of ever escaping
searching for a place to swallow
no solemn sanctity to borrow

chorus:
only when you see the night can you appreciate the day
teachers cannot teach you certain things no matter what they say
I saw the rites of sin no waters can wash clean
I saw the rites of sin no saviour can redeem x2

Stoning sinners in the street
to drink the wine in mirror's reach
Pray for love and outstretched hands
then bury them all in the sand

Their burning fingers point and stare
they discriminate everywhere
plastic people playing pretend
their ignorance will never end

termites let the current take them
right into their final fashion

chorus again
interlude
chorus again
end

You definitely show a knack for songwriting. I like how the lines flowed.

Those were both really beautifully written, Drac. I'd love to hear them with music sometime. :)

The lyrics look pretty good, they show some thought into them. I like the chorus as well. Very good work, Draconysious.
