I love to hear remixes of her songs on the dancefloor, but I don't consider her talented by a long shot, unless you count dressing like a retard and snorting a mountain of coke a talent. I see her as an entertainer more than a pop star, but that is based upon opinion, now, isn't it?

"Born This Way" underwhelmed me, the production was cluttered and filled with pointless noise, but I've heard the new album is really good.

Best performance artist and parodist of pop-culture of the last decade, simplisticly smart lyrics, definetly into chaos magic, possibly a genious.
Her music is kinda catchy.

That said, I'd happily talk about SoM too.

Nothing new about SoM. Eldritch is still a bloody wanker denouncing the very people that he wrote his music for in the 80-90s. Yet he's happy enough to go on tour and take their money since he obviously lacks the talent to come up with a new album in all of these years. If he manages to produce a new album before he dies I will happily eat my words.

While I'll grant you that Lady Gaga is better than the usual pop-fair, and I definitely give her props for being able to get red-state mid-westerners dancing to tunes about it being okay to be gay...the fact of the matter is that her music is extremely superficial, and without the bizarre presentation and fashion sense, she'd be pretty forgettable.

This is what happens when some music executives decide to manufacture David Bowie from the top-down. Without the economic downturn and the people's subsequent wish to find a "real" artist Gaga would never have been booked at those "Underground NYC rock-clubs" by her agent and production team.

What it comes down to is, are you cool with slick top-down commercially created performers (I'm not) or are you interested in bottom-up artists?

I mean if you're cool with the music and culture you consume being a product first and expression second (well really fifth or sixth when you get down to it) then have at it. I personally need a bit more.

My main quibble with her is that I have heard more profound and talented shit from 13 year old kids messing around with FL studio who have little to no financial backing, yet these guys never make it because their music is politically touchy and bring up issues that people would rather ignore . Such as black on white racism, male on male ****, discrimination in the education system etc.
