Watch "Nosferatu" (1922) on YouTube!

I just wanted to post a notice here for everyone that you can now watch the classic vampire film "Nosferatu" (1922) online in its entirety on YouTube for free.

If you'll looking for the cure for the teeny bloodsucker blues, it might just be what the doctor ordered.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

Thanks for sharing. :gets hot chocolate and sits in comfortable chair with lap blanket to watch:

Old news, but thanks for the post - sometimes the world needs to be reminded of Murnau's awesomeness.

Ah, the same guy has been loading a bunch of classic movies that have fallen into the public domain onto YouTube. I also found the following gems:

"White Zombie" (1932) with Bela Lugosi (the first Zombie film)

"The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1919)

"Night Of The Living Dead" [1968]

"The Little Shop Of Horrors" (1960)

"The Brain That Wouldn't Die" (1962)

"The Wasp Woman" (1959)

and a personal favorite - "Invasion of the Bee Girls" (1973)

For Vincent Price fans there's "The House On Haunted Hill" (1959) and "The Last Man On Earth" (1964) based on the Richard Matheson story "I Am Legend" (remade later as "The Omega Man" and the recent Will Smith vehicle of the same name)

For fans of Hammer Films there's "Count Dracula and His Vampire Brides" (1973) aka "The Satanic Rites of Dracula" with Christopher Lee as the classic count.

Those that want a little campy horror ala 1973 should try out "Satan's School for Girls" with soon-to-be Charlie's Angels members Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd.

And there's another YouTube channel where you can sample some of the television classic "Elvira's Movie Macabre" ... I remember my Mom telling me, "Well, you know why your father watches HER" and rolling her eyes! But I was right there with my Dad. Try out "Count Dracula's Great Love" for starters. I will never forget the sound of Elvira signing off each episode with her trademark, "Unpleasant dreams!" Or pretty much any QUOTE from her!

Ben, you fucking rock!
A million thank yous!

Still Jack 12-13-2009 04:16 AM

I actually have most of those on DVD =).

Methadrine 12-13-2009 04:54 AM

Hm, I should upload that incredibly bad but funny movie which, if I recall correctly, had the silly name of "Horrors of Spider Island". It was so utterly craptastic that it actually was pretty good.

I collect bad movies so I have a ton of things from the 40's and forward, as well as some silent classics from the early parts of the last century.

I have the Bee Girls movie...

I hope they add the obvious version of Dracula. (If you don't know with one I'm taliking about, then fuck off.)

skoteinh 12-13-2009 06:04 AM

Thank you Ben! I have most of them on DVD too, but I haven't seen The Invasion of the Bee Girls. From the above posts, it seems like I should.

Ben Lahnger 12-14-2009 03:21 PM

I think Spider Island is also one of the flicks that guy already uploaded. There are others, I just ran out of patience.

Yeah, I have some of those films and others on DVD (like "Brother From Another Planet"), but now I can download the digitized file to my laptop (longer battery life watching a file than a DVD for traveling) and can convert it to DPG format for watching on my Nintendo DS ... cause I think it's a hoot to watch something like Night of the Living Dead over coffee at a restaurant! LOL!

Oh, and you can steer clear of the 1910 version of "Frankenstein". It's of historical interest only, as far as I'm concerned.

How is it all of these things have fallen into the public domain, including some good films like "Carnival of Souls", but Universal still retains all the rights to the classic 1930's monster movies? I'm just curious.

vindicatedxjin 12-14-2009 04:40 PM

You can also watch the cabinet of dr. caligari on there. It is hands down my favorite silent movie ever.

My best guess is that the rights were owned by individual people who dies or smaller studios that went out of business, unlike Universal which is still around.

A lot of older films like Nosferatu have been public domain for some time, generally speaking as movies get older they lapse into public domain if no one claims the copyright after some time (or in the case of Night Of The Living Dead they didn't properly place a copyright notice to begin with which was required in US law after 1968 according to Wikipedia). But for monster flicks the copyright laws have been properly maintained, and they'll probably be making money off of Lugosi's Dracula for some time to come still so Universal won't be giving it up, but who knows? Someday it'll probably fall into public domain.

Thanks for the heads up though, I've been wanting to watch the Christopher Lee Dracula for some time.

Yeah, I linked to that one above.

Awesome!!!!

Ophelia's Snorkel 12-20-2009 05:41 PM

Thanks, Ben! I've got a few of those on DVD, but not all of them. This is the perfect way to spend the next few nights.

paleghost 12-31-2009 09:31 AM

There's also a Gothic industrial music version. Same movie, but the music is different

Ben Lahnger 12-31-2009 09:53 AM

yeah, I bought that on DVD at the 99 Cents Only store ... for less than a buck. The DVD offers the option to watch the film either silent or with a new stereo soundtrack by Type-O Negative. And it is outstanding!
