Chelsea Wolfe

Lately, I've been getting into Chelsea Wolfe's album, "Apokalypsis." While I wouldn't narrowly define her work as "gothic rock", the music certainly has a dark and haunting vibe that I imagine would appeal to goths. She has a crossover appeal in the same way a band like Swans do. Anybody here fans of her work?

I can't say it's a bad video or song, but the pacing is too slow for my taste, I'll give other songs a listen to be fair but I can't give a definitive like/dislike at the moment.

'Mer' was one of the first Chelsea Wolfe songs I ever heard. I really like most of her stuff. Have you heard the new album 'Abyss'? If not, check out the songs 'Grey Days' and 'Color Of Blood'.
While it might not be 'Technically Goth', it certainly Feels like 'Goth'. And why must we trivialize good music with labels.
Good Music is... Good Music.

Chelsea Wolfe - Dragged Out. From her new album. Very much sounds like Nin with female vocs. Love it

I thought the newer stuff sounds like Swans influence. I like it.

Hey Priapism, for some reason I'm locked out of the 'What Are You Currently Listening To page. So I'll reply here. As far as I know, Debbie Harry only did two vids with Giger : 'Backfired' and 'Now I Know You Know'. Both from her 1981 KooKoo album. There's an edit of footage from both vids on YouTube to another song from KooKoo, 'Inner City Spillover' - I love this one, the lyrics are delightfully weird. She's often labeled as 'punk' which she's clearly not and her music is influenced by many styles. I don't like all her songs but I did grow up listening to her when she was with Blondie. Man, was I in love with her back then! It's really great that she collaborated with Giger, the late and great.

Yeah.. U Know, I've always had problems getting into that page.
But I was very curious to see your offerings. Maybe I'm wired wrong, but I feel I can see someone better through the art that moves them, Than any picture of their face.
I honestly can see a lil punk (maybe new-wave) in her, but her music is definitely not what I'd call 'punk'.
Truly Love Women Musicians... so I can understand you're fondness for her.
(In fact, you don't have to look far to see what I mean)

Giger... What can I say?
Everyone loves Giger, AND they should. His work is amazing.

I saw Chelsea Wolfe play in Bristol last month. I didn't know much of her stuff prior to the gig but it was really impressive. She put on a great show and the music was excellent. It was a vert mesmerising show.

What do you think of her new album Abyss? It's a lot heavier than her earlier stuff, almost industrial at times. I've seen people relate it to Marilyn Manson, and I can almost see that in the video for Carrion Flowers. It's a litttttle over the top spookier-than-thou but I dig the song regardless.

Edit: Just saw Fasker's comment. NIN is a more accurate comparison than Manson for sure.

Abyss is good. The whole sound is very haunting which I like, I guess the video for Carrion Flowers is meant to be quite artistic but I think it goes well with the music. It was interesting seeing her loop stuff live, she seemed like a very talented performer.

I don't really know if I'd compare her stuff to Marilyn Manson at all, they seem very different to me but I haven't listened to anything by Marilyn Manson in a while. I did think some of her music reminded me of modern NIN though.

'Flatlands' (Live Solo Performance)

If you like 'Flatlands' you might also like;

'Fight Like Gods' (Chelsea Wolfe & King Dude)

'Tracks (Tall Bodies)'

'Tracks' is one of my personal favorites by her... Love the Lyrics.

Now, I'm making an assumption here...
But you might like a band called 'Mazzy Star'.
They're certainly not what I'd call 'Goth', but instead they have a Folky-Psychedelic sound.

Enjoy.

I just checked out her song Feral Love and I got hints of dark wave and new wave genres. It's undeniably dark indeed :)

Thank you :) I checked out Mazzy Star. I couldn't really get into her music.

Chelsea Wolfe's " Halfsleeper" is another good one.
