So, How did you celebrate New Year's eve?

I made sushi with my family (who am I kidding? I made it mostly by myself), opened my presents from my sisters watched them open their presents (so cute!) and then with my partner, eating awesome food and straggling to open a champagne bottle. I'm a little asahamed to say I was asleep by one o'clock, but it was fun.

What about you guys?

Saya 01-01-2011 05:18 AM

I got in the bad habit of sleeping all day, so I've been trying to rectify that by not sleeping at all yesterday, so last night I went to bed around nine XD I'm much more lame, trust me! I meant to go to my mom's house but I can't get in touch with her, but just as well, I haven't celebrated New Years in five years.

Noirette 01-01-2011 05:29 AM

Why haven't you celebrated? out of choice or consequence?

Saya 01-01-2011 05:46 AM

Oh just consequence, usually around this time of year I'm broke, my friends go downtown which is crowded and I hate that, and one year I was offered overtime and a paid day off if I worked New Years Eve. So I did! I'm still kinda partied out from Christmas festivities as well.

I have done the same. The best way to turn it around is to get up at 8 or so in the morning one day - doesn't matter if you only went to bed at 6 or so.
Then that evening you go to bed early. That usually evens it out over 2 days for me.

Oh, and I celebrated by eating and drinking with my family and their friends.
It was all nice, but too noisy.

carakitty 01-01-2011 09:03 AM

I've been fighting a cold so I had to cancel out on going to my friend's house.

Got the littlebat to bed and the critters fed then curled up in my bed with some Jagermeister and the Twilight Zone Marathon. I was getting pretty drowsy around 10:30 and didn't think i could make it, but the shows were interesting enough to make me want to stay up to see what happened next. So I stayed up until a little past 12, around 12:15 or so, then decided to turn off the TV.

Crashed out pretty quick after that, with thoughts of my dearly departed brother swirling through my head. I had a feeling if he was still here with us I could have called and told him about my events and he'd quite likely be doing the same thing. Except probably no Jager. I was longing for more of it. It felt so good on my sore throat and gave me a warm feeling in my belly. :)

So, the evening started off kind of crummy when I realized I wasn't going to make it over to my friend's, but ended up falling asleep pretty happy.

Had some drinks with friends... played games, laughed had lots 'o fun!!

Fruitbat 01-01-2011 04:36 PM

Got baby bat to sleep, sat on the lounge and watched top gear post apocolypse until 2 minuntes to midnight, when I propositioned Mr Bat in a very unromantic way and I'm too much of a gentle girl to say the rest.

I think it must have been the Aston Martin Vantage that got me in the mood.

I am sorry to say I did not know about your late brother. Did you share such news with us earlier and I just missed it?

Anyway good to read that it seems you are adjusted to his departure. It did not take me long to adjust to losing may father last year (he was 3 days short of his 80th birthday, a good run I suppose).

As for mine: Spent it watching Toy Story 3 cuddling with my grandson by the fireplace whilst Mrs. Humane, my daughter and her spouse (my grandson's father) were sharing wine spritzer's out in the garage, and trying vainly to keep my eyes open (I am a morning person and rarely stay up beyond 9 PM). Boring to you guys I am sure but a very contented pastime for us.

New Year's resolution: giving up my daily Starbucks triple cafe mocha. It will save me 4.50 a day and plus I don't need the extra calories. I put on 4 pounds last year and I am sure the whipped cream had something to do with it!

Got pissed on rum in the pub with old schoolfriends.

Went to a small party/gathering with some friends intending just to have a drink or two and a calm night of chatting.

I got absolutely sloshed, talked social phenomena, theology and all kinds of science with a girl who studied Astrophysics. Offered one guy a blowjob (later I found out his ex-fiance was in the room) hit on another in front of his girlfriend (she thought it was hilarious), got petted like a dog, danced, frustrated the straight guys by getting away with tit-grabbing, gave a drunken rendition of The Nanny theme song, educated curious (as in curious about the culture, not bi-curious) straight guys about life as a gay. A good portion of the night was spent crawling around the floor, and being a carpet whale.

I also got told I was awesome quite a few times, which was, in such a lame-sweet way, really affirming and boosted my self-esteem.

Thank you for your condolences, HP. I don't think I've told his story because he passed (4 July 2008) before I joined this board. I believe I have mentioned him in passing though. He was an amazing musician, brother, husband, father, friend and I felt closest to him of all my siblings. Leukemia took his life far too quickly. He would have been 45 on his next birthday which was a month away. There are still many times where I've wanted to call him up to talk with him about stuff and he's visited me in my dreams a couple times.

If I did not say it before, I hope you are grieving your father well, and it sound as though you may be. Was he sick for long before he passed? Part of me thinks it may be easier to deal with death if one is very old, or very sick for a while before they go. Seems like the sudden ones are the worst.

Your new year's eve doesn't sound boring to me, it sounds delightful. Cuddle time is the best!

Thanks for reminding me, I need to recharge my Starbucks Rewards card and buy more beans tomorrow. Meant to do it today but was too lazy to get dressed :) I wish you the best of luck cutting your Mochas cold turkey!

Well... I didn't celebrate so much; I forgot to. I did however hang out with my best friends and smoke pot. Plus, there was coffee.

Eventually we wound up at Denny's, with my girlfriend there too, and had delicious food. So:

-Coffee
-Friends
-Pot
-Love
-Food

Pretty sweet night, if you ask me. The hard part was remembering where I was as we tried to make it to the transit center on foot in the dark. I swear there were dark and sinister giant mushrooms, man... everything was so... sinister....

KontanKarite 01-02-2011 08:22 AM

It was a rockabilly new years for me. I got stupid drunk at this shop, then went to Otto's Shrunken Head, and made a couple of new buddies.

The end.

Samuel "forced" me to come to Paris. So we went to the George V Bar for pre drinkery, then L'Alternative for a while celebrated midnight at the Rex, went to Fleche d'or ( still dunno where that is, I was propper fucked by then ). After all of this tomfoolery, we got the train to Luxembourg at about 10 am then went to Dqliq for the after party.

The end.

Went to a casino, got drunk, jammed to some music the house band was playing.

CK- sorry to hear of your loss... man I hate the whole phone call thing.

I usually got the urge when I was making/baking something in the kitchen and I'd be like "Oh I'll call mum, oh that's right she's not here" and then get all down in the dumps. Tomorow it will be 13 years, and it was probably a good five years before I stopped thinking about calling her (although i do still have the odd moments - that's usually when I call my MIL and stir her up).

The end of the month will be the 8th anniversay of dad's passing (I hate this time of the year).

I don't think the sudden deaths are any easier to cope with (lost some friends in a car accident in High School). FIL shot himself two years ago - but then suicide raises a bunch of different questions all together.

Death is difficult for those of us left behind.

HP Sorry to hear your father passed last year. Your NYE sounded great!

We had a fairly low-key New Years, there were 6 of us all together and we just kind of hung out eating and drinking (Jake made fantastic punch that hit a lot harder than you would have thought). We watched the ball drop and toasted at midnight, Jake felt the need to pop the cork using a sword, thankfully there was no damage done. Some how we ended up singing to show tunes and I was introduced to the game "Plants vs Zombies", which seems really intense when both drunk and really sleep deprived.

I think everyone left around 3:30 or so and Jake and I went to bed after cleaning up for about an hour (cleaning takes a lot longer when drinking).

All in all it was a very good night.

Got drunk on Scotch at a pub with workmates, one of which I shouldn't have. Ended up at the casino with some other mates, got home about 3am. Just in time to get in trouble with the boyfriend.
