A few years ago, when I suppose I was woefully pretentious, I decided most weapons were pretentious and took up the sword-tonfas (like a sword cane, only with two blades and you hit with the blunt parts, too), and the Urumi as my choice weapons.
I don't know what I was thinking, but it's cool and unique now, and helps because people have no idea what to expect in sparring matches (although I can never use the even trippier Urumi since that's pretty much deadly however used).
