Since she's made the decision to convert, she's decided not to purchase any further leather items. But nothing she can do with the items she has now can undo what has been done to them. And I don't see any meaningful conflict between holding her new views and keeping these items. Some people would try to make an issue of what the leather items represent, but an mature person can separate damage done from future potential.
I can easily see why she would not part with them.
