Obviously, giving gay people equal marriage rights under the law ISN'T popular opinion, or else prop 8 wouldn't have passed.
And it isn't just about money, but being able to share a household, legally the way a married couple do. Its about being treated as family legally when it comes to things like; medical decisions, insurance benefits, adoption and more.
These are things that a poxy religious ceremony with no legal licence CAN'T do.
