I can't say 100% for all the other special edition cure cd's, (because I don't own them), but in the booklet accompanying the Pornography double disc set, it states clearly: "This compilation compiled and produced by Robert Smith. Digitally remastered by Chris Blair at Abbey Road Studios, London." Now whether or not it was originally Smith's idea to re-release all of them I cannot say. But I do recall reading something where he stated as such, some time back. Possibly on their website. Or a magazine somewhere.
The set is actually pretty nice, now that I'm looking at it. It is a fold-out box, with a slip cover cardboard sleeve, all drenched in the original Pornography art work. And the 2nd disc has 14 tracks, including several demos and live versions. And there is a 'Rhino' logo on it, which I've never seen on any other cure releases. One thing I've always found interesting about the Cure's earlier stuff is that their demo songs usually have different lyrics than what finally winds up on the album(s).
Oh, and I just wanted to clarify an earlier comment somebody made about the Glove. The Glove was a side project Robert Smith did with Siouxsie and the banshees guitarist (or basist?) Steve Severin, in 1983. The title of the album is Blue Sunshine. Smith also played guitar on one of the banshees albums. (possibly more than one, not sure).
I don't recall the cure ever releasing any music under the name Cult Hero, but they do have an early song with that title. The only names I know of them ever playing under is Obelisk and The Easy Cure, later dropping the word Easy...
