I would just like to add support to Ophelia's concept with the idea that conversely, people gain support and comfort and friendship from internet conversations. So logically:
a) People condemn and insult each other over the internet
b) People compliment, support and encourage each other over the internet
c) therefore it isn't just "the internet" but real people interacting and reacting.
(Opehlia's premise is true)
