I really like the book Stitch n Bitch, the patterns aren't too crazy, but it ranks them from easiest to hardest in category (like easy hat, intermediate hat, difficult hat, easy scarf, intermediate scarf, difficult scarf, etc.) and the patterns are youthful enough that I don't feel like my grandmother made them for me. There have been a few sequel books but they don't seem to live up to the original, to me at least.

Two great websites are craftster, which is more like a forum where people post in category, but I've gotten some really wonderful tutorials from there before, and ravelry, which you need to create an account but you'll have lots of access to different patterns and forums. I'm not very active but it has mostly to do with the fact that I have no friends on it, I'm yodo there if you want to add me.

Pinterest is also helpful for when you find random shit on the web and want to share it with others.

And of course if you get stuck, there's a million tutorials on youtube.
