I do agree that there is alot of wasted potential her (I'm hoping season six improves, because season 5's ending left alot to be desired in my opion)

In the hands of a more capable writing staff (ie: one that includes me, and possibly David Milch) and a better network, it could've been legendary. The preminse is excellent, and the characters and relationships are there.

I can't say if the flaws are the fault of the writing staff, or due to executive meddling (Though the episode about the necromancer working on a movie set makes me suspect the latter).
That's why the penalty is only a dime. I like to consider myself a reasonable man.

Just saw the first episode of Season 6.

It was some of the worst TV I have ever seen.

Not just Supernatural, but out of every show I've ever seen, Supernatural Season 6 episode 1 was one of the worst.

Seriously there are episodes of Saved by the Bell with more compelling characters and plotlines.

This is not Supernatural, this is fanfic.

Re-reading your last comment, Desp - the flaws are, IMO, totally down to the writing staff. Even allowing for exec meddling, going from memory, the dialogue is completely uninspired. Dialogue should NEVER fuck your concept, even if it doesn't add to it. (I watched a few later episodes after reading synopses and living in hope - better, but nowhere near good.)

Damn shame, because I could really get behind the premise as a guilty pleasure - and maybe more, if it were handled well enough. And I always want to like something with a decent soundtrack. (In fact, the soundtrack was part of what kept me watching for some 7 episodes.)

If you have time, you should write a short, just for here & just for practice. At least your shit's FUNNY. And this thread has enough posters that you'd have a ready-made audience with opinions galore.

Hmm I might.

I'm currently working on a rewrite of Afterall, and I have to finish Mic. so I can apply to Juilliard this fall...but who knows.

There's also anj expanded version of Snow White Zombie in the works.

Honestly I would've loved to work with a premise like Supernatural's so if I have the time to kill I might just write an episode or two.

I think this is going to be their last season. Not only did it suck but its in the time slot of death, isn't it?

Which begs the question, why would you fight so hard to renew a show, and then set it up to fail?

Didn't they only originally intend for five? They probably just thought "we'd love to do a sixth!" And didn't think things through. Now its like "Oh shit, what are we going to do for a plot?"

Well the head writer/producer/creator planned for five, apparently they got to the end and the network was like: "This show is popular, we want you to do a sixth season" and he was like "I don't want to" and they were like "fine, we own this franchise, not you, we'll do a sixth season without you."

And then they gave it a shitty timeslot and made it suck.

Honestly, I was excited to see this season. I really didn't like the ending of season 5 at all. It felt rushed, anti-climactic and overall unworthy of what the show had been when it was at it's best. I was hoping season six might take the show in a more interesting direction, but instead we got poorly explained and written plotpoints, even worse characters, and TERRIBLE camera work and overall storytelling.

Case and point:

"There are three Djinn in the trees!"

I'll probably watch for another episode or two to see if it gets better/watch Supernatural go down in flames.

Reason for posting though is that there's a preview for the anime:

Anime looks great.

I'll watch the new episode on Hulu tonight. Here's hoping it doesn't suck.

Season 6 episode 2: utter garbage. terrible writing. plot ripped straight from The X-files.

Episode 3: better. dragged at times, but this felt the most like the series I;ve watched for the past 5 seasons.

Souns like an itch you can't stop scratching, Desp. I get that that you like the concept (I actually did too, and having brothers myself, I think the most potentially interesting avenues were neglected there...... but that's just my shit talking). However, bottom line: they fucked the dog.

y personal advice: write it the way yoiu think it should be written, take some ideas from the prctice for your own concepts, and leave it behinmd like the steaming turd it turned into. The stories were fine (and couls have been great at times), but afce it - the writing and execution were shit-awful.

William Faulkner: "All writing is plagiarism."
Cormac McCathy: "The ugly fact is that books are made from other books."

I'm not saying there's nothing of worth to be taken from it - just that there's a time when you need to let shit go. And I'm only saying this because I think you actually write better than them. (All right, don't wank over it.)

Try a screenplay - seriously, after playwriting, it's hella fun to to just write whatever the hell yuo want without having to be mindful of budget. You see it, there it is on the page. Even if y0ou never do anything with it, it's enjoyable, and good practie.

There's an idea in the works.

Man, I actually have to stop dicking around and start writing again, I've got some deadlines coming up and I'm losing valuable writing time to Fallout and Street Fighter 4.

Just posting because I found this:

Quote:
Large parts of season one are simply unwatchable, to the extent that we suspect that they didn't bother to actually put all of the episodes on the DVD set, and that when selected, the menu screen simply says "You want to watch the episode about the racist truck? Really?"
Its unwatchableness is kinda endearing to me, actually.

That is a fairly good flowchart. I watch Supernatural regularly. Some of the occult stuff is interesting. The "truth" telling goddess was featured last night.

Hey Desp, you still watching? I thought last night's was pretty good, the opening cracked me up.

Mostly because I know people like the crazy fairy lady. Lots of people here believe in them and some of them are that creepy about it.

I'll have to wait for it to show up on Hulu.

Last episode I saw was the skin-walker one, which was actually pretty good.

This "Alpha" stuff is retarded though.

The last episode was okay I guess. The big demon guy got killed.

How much can you actually say on one of these without becoming a spoiler?

I liked the show anyway.

I walked in on a friend watching one of the new episodes a while back. It went like this:

SAM IS TIED TO A CHAIR.

S: Okay, come on, this stopped being funny a while ago. Untie me.

D: No way, there's a good chance you're totally evil and a danger to us all.

S: Okay. That's it. I didn't want to do this, but... [shrugs easily out of the ropes and stands up]

D: ... Fine, whatever. You kill anyone, I'll TOTALLY kick your ass.

That is LITERALLY how it went down. Man, whoever writes that show sucks at pacing.
