Da Vinci Code~Dan Brown

Personally, I found this book very intriging. Honestly, everything I knew about christianity was totally demolished while reading this book.

But you have to admit, What if? the point of the book, I think, is for people to open up. I am not saying wether or wether not this book was based on actual facts, 'cause it wasn't. Also, I had to read it in a class, meaning background information up the kazoo. I

i enjoyed the book, not the characters. the puzzles were cool and the points covered were controversial. interest in da vinci's art and writing soared through the roof following the release of this book.

however, the characters were lame and absolutely unbelievable. there was not one shred of human interest they provided. i didn't care if they lived or died. i didn't care about them, period. if not for uncovering and explaining the riddles, etc. they'd have been fully worthless.

I have to agree with you there e_e, I think I have written about more developed characters than Dan Brown could have ever hoped to. But the idea of it, the idea of challenging the thoughts of Chirstianity is a step towards some type of internal genius. Although some parts were plain sucky and lame, over all, 'twas not too bad.

I tend not to rant too much, even in real life. Tends to be a 5 minute flip out, then I'm fine. But like Santarea said maybe given some time....

*sigh*

If you are truly interested in the topics Dan Brown er, touched upon in DaVinci Code then try reading the books he basicly lifted his entire theory from. Goddess in the Gospels, and Woman With the Alabaster Jar by Margarit Starbird. They're a good starting point.

Other than that, it was a boring and predictable book for anyone who knows a damn thing about goddess worship, Magdalene conspiracy, or religious symbolism in general. I can see how it would shock John Q. Public and I guess that's exactly what Dan Brown expected.

And Dan Brown ain't so accurate himself, sweetie. In DaVinci code one of his characters informs us that there are over 80 gospels total. That's books, smart guy, not gospels. A gospel is a book but a book is not a gospel. Just thought I'd mention it...

The story was predictable and I absolutely hated the ending. It was fun reading it though since the hints left behind by Sophie's grandfather were quite interesting and how they solved it. However, after readng that book, I kind of changed my views on Christianity as well since I never really thought about it that way.

There's an occultic fiction book I enjoyed recently called Witch's Hammer by Jane Stanton Hitchcock. I really enjoyed reading it because it seemed like she really had researched her subject matter for herself, and it's an interesting read. The plot isn't unguessable but it was a good book.

For anyone that likes occultic fiction...

I got The Sword and the Circle by Rosemary Sutcliffe for Christmas a long time ago and it's what got me into Arthurian books.

Perhaps it has already been mentioned, but I suspect that this thread is in the wrong section. According to the description, the Commentary section is for...

cussion and feedback for Gothic.net articles, fiction, and news. This is where the community gets to add their thoughts and perhaps constructive opinions about the fiction and articles and such.
I may be incorrect. In the event that I am not, I'd recommend that further threads of this sort be posted in the Literature section.

(Admins, if you're reading this, know that there is a spelling error in the section description. I have pointed it out in the quoted passage above.)

the ones reading the Da vinci code are tjhe ones looking for the truth behind the catholic church like me. The truth (what i called it a lie) behind jesus christ, and the foundations of the christian faith with its pagan roots.
for me, there's no wrong about it. just keep your faith well while reading it.

If anyone is looking for a good read about the Pagan roots of Christianity I recommend: Ancient Pagan and Modern Christian Symbolism - by Thomas Inman, and Pagan and Christian Creeds - by Edward Carpenter.
