That looks awesome! Unfortunately, my parents won't let me get any piercings until I'm 18 and "I can make my own choices". It took about five years for them to finally let me get my lobe pierced. I've never heard of an industrial piercing. It looks really good.

My parents were the same way. I was 15 before I had my ears pierced. Now I've left home and I'm only up to five piercings, all in my ears... But the Industrial looks so cool, I may have to get myself a new piercing for Christmas.

My friends and I were out partying on Friday when one of my friends decided to get pierced. We spent close to a hour looking for a respectable looking tattoo/piercing studio. Finally we found one and the lady showed all of us into the room and within about 5 minutes we we're finished. I had seriously been thinking about getting one but now I'm having some draw backs because I nearly passed out just watching. Ive had a total of 12 piercings before and never had that happen before so I'm cofused. Oh well.

Question on the industrial piercing: If I fell in love with pretty cartilage jewelry, but didn't want a single cartilage piercing, could I put that jewelry in an industrial piercing?

Of course! Just as long as it's the right gauge size. Some piercers will put a pair of regular CBR's into your fresh industrial piercings rather than going straight for the bar, because despite the minor difficulty of keeping the holes aligned properly while healing, two separate pieces of jewellery are meant to heal faster and more painlessly than the bar. So some people have "normal" jewellery for months before upgrading to the barbell, and others - such as myself - will, once healed, take advantage of the fact we've got 2 cartilage piercings that can take either an industrial bar *or* any other kind of correct-size jewellery we feel like wearing.

Wow, your industrial piercing has been inserted very well. Although it does look a bit swollen on the (my) left, but what does it matter?

Yeah, that happens. It should go down as it heals. That's my body freaking out about having been impaled.

Ahahaha! So my mum had a friend of hers' round for dinner today. I sat down at the table and picked up a screw from the cabinet behind me to fiddle with. (it was this faulty screw that had come without a thread, so it's a smooth thin cylinder with a philips head.) Mum's friend immediately looked at it then at my ear with a wierd expression and asked half-jokingly if I was planning on inserting it next... After dinner, my dad noticed I was fiddling with it, and asked the same thing, with 80% genuine curiosity as far as I could tell.

I'm pretty interested in getting one, but I'm afraid of it tearing when I sleep. How do I avoid that if possible?

If you're not bothered about which side you get pierced, get it done on the side you don't usually lie on when you sleep. Then, once you have it, try and avoid changing position when you're dozing off, and just lie on your back or the side that hasn't been pierced. Also, keep a clean pillowcase on your pillow, change it every few days, so that if you do accidentally re-open the wound in your sleep, it will have less chance of getting infected than on a greasy old manky pillowcase. I have a sort of velvet/furry pillowcase on my huge Ikea cushion I sleep on, and I can't really change it very often, so I put it inside a clean t-shirt and change that every few days instead.

Also, just a note from experience. Never get your haircut anytime soon after getting the piercing. Inexperienced or rushed hands will result in the comb catching on the earring and re-opening your healing wound. Bloody well hurt more than actually getting it done.

Question. Is it completely stupid of me to even consider piercing my lip by myself?

Ah. Right.

Well, my name's Yumi...age is kinda none of your business, haha...I only have my earlobes pierced so far, but I want to get a cartilage piercing and I'm considering a lip piercing.

I ask, only because several people have done it at home with a needle and ice, and claimed it to be worth it.

By "introduce", love, I'm sure that meant in the Introduction Section.

Just out of idle curiousity, though, what was "worth it" about piercing their own lips? What kind of needle did they use? Because I'm willing to bet that they did a few things wrong. Firstly, the placement of your lip piercing is VERY important. A professional knows that there are many nerve endings in your lip that you could fuck up quite easily with a needle and ice. Also, improper placement of a lip piercing can fuck with your teeth and gums, which can cause serious health problems later in life. Secondly, if they used the wrong kind of needle (say, anything other than a hollow piercing needle) they could have created health risks associated with the scar tissue they've built up.

So, my advice is, unless you really know what you're doing, just don't.

Yeah. It's insanely stupid to pierce yourself unless you're very tuned into what you're doing. If you feel unsure, and that a needle and ice cube are your best equipment, you're definitely not ready for doing self-modification. It's a reasonably cheap piercing to have done cleanly by professionals, you should get it done properly. Definitely not worth the risks.

Maybe you ought to try some different "professionals", then. Research your piercist/tattoo artist carefully.

What city do you live in/near? I found the one I went to by searching Google for "body piercing glasgow" and searching through the results for one that looked trustworthy. The best one I found had a full staff bio section with extensive examples of the tattooists' (very high quality) work, an explanation of their hygiene procedures and standards, and a forum where the shop's piercers, tattooists and various regular customers would discuss body art. Saw no complaints of bad practise there, all the piercers and tattooists had very professional attitudes and lots of experience in their craft.

Do your homework. Know what you're looking for in a good piercing shop, and ask them if the information isn't readily available. See if you can get opinions from other customers. If it all looks good, then you can go for it.

I guess that information only holds true for people who take body modification seriously, though. I mean, if you don't care if you're going to hit a nerve or get infected, go wherever you want-- or do it yourself!

Yup, I was given the whole pep talk on that before I got my nose pierced when I was 14. I think it probably would have hurt more with a gun anyways.

Just remember: only cowboys use guns

i meant that the ones i did got infected...
i didnt take my body mods as seriously the, as i do now (and have for the past few years)
after trying out different piercers, i settled with a lovely lady at a shop called Wildfire. i take my friends there when they want to get pierced. and the great thing is that they provide great after-piercing support...and they're reputable. i'd steer clear of those dodgy rooms in the back of hippie shops...
my biggest fear now, is damage in the moshpit...
