Roeper on journalism and Oscar picks

Noted film critic Richard Roeper made quite a splash at the University of Central Florida on Feb. sixteen as he spoke about literature, pop culture and his view of the Best Picture Academy Award. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Roeper surprised pupils with his frank evaluation of the journalistic profession and his Academy Awards picks. Yet it was students on hand who found most remarkable Roeper's encouragement to youthful film critics that they should stand up for their opinions and not take backlash personally. Article resource - Richard Roeper pulls no punches with 2011 Oscar picks by MoneyBlogNewz.

Everyone can write, Roeper claims

Roeper said “Now, everyone’s a writer” with his iPad. Getting somebody to pay for opinions is the trick, Roeper explained. Everyone can put these opinions on blog posts or on Twitter. Part of this involved discussing the Academy Awards. The movie critic wrote about which movie would get the Best Picture Oscar. The best film that Roeper saw this past year was “Inception” by Nolan which is actually nominated for Best Director. Even though “Inception” is nominated, the film most likely won’t win Best Picture.

The film winner in accordance with Roeper

At this year Academy Awards, Roeper thinks that Best Picture should go to David Fincher’s movies about Facebook and Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) called “The Social Network.” It is a film that has good performances and an excellent script while being good enough to be put next to “Inception”. More likely to win is “The King’s Speech” though, suggests Roeper. Roeper explained that the movie that is all about Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) and King George VI of England (Colin Firth) is "what the Academy loves: British actors talking about British things.”. What he means is the group considered Academy voters might like that movie best. It will appeal to these people. Only a groundswell by younger voters could send "The Social Network" to the top.

Strength good and poor writing both have

The audience heard Roeper’s opinion. He said that movie criticism is subjective currently. Roeper states there is only one thing that changed whether a film is universally good or universally poor:

"What makes a really good movie is the script," he said. "There's no chance for a good movie without one."
