"When the Wind Blows" is NOT Public Domain.

I have seen it though. I've even seen one of the cells at the Museum of Moving Image.

I'm aware it's not public domain. It's just that I don't really care. It's worth seeing.

Yes, but it did spawn an interesting musical:

(which has been released to the PUBLIC DOMAIN by the company who put out this production).

The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari should be here. As should the original Frankenstein and its sequel Bride of Frankenstein.

Seems like Universal still owns it.

I'm...going to pretend you didn't say that.
Phew, crisis averted.

I have seen nearly all of these, I love Night of the Living Dead.
Nosferatu was just funny though. I know it was made a long time ago, so it's bound to be low-tech, but the format was just irritating. Like how every time someone spoke, a slide came up just with text on, it looked like something I would make in MS Power Point. The remake was good though.

Jan Svankmajer's The Pit, the Pendulum, and Hope is my favourite cinemagraphic reimagination of a Poe tale. It's just plain weird. His film Alice is up on Youtube as well, and while not gothic its still extraordinarily dark for a childrens' picture.

George Melies' A Trip to the Moon is just plain wicked.

A bunch more are listed here, including the Cabinet and Dracula:
