Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

btw, I saw your profile picture. Did you make those falls yourself? Very nice!

Thanks, cryptickisses. Yes, I made those. It took a few evenings to make but I think they turned out alright. I used alot of foam, air tubig, and wire protector.
I'm in the process of making dreadfalls from synthetic hair. I should have been done along time ago but my steamer broke :'(

You're quite welcome. Judging by the picture, they turned out great. I'm sure it's fun as hell experimenting with wire and tubig. Once I "master" synth & yarn dreads, I think I'll move on to those.
The instructions I found for synthetic hair dreads mentioned nothing about a "steamer". Is that a tool you would use to seal the hair around the braided portion of the dread? Are steamers expensive?
Would you, perchance, have a website?

I make single ended dreads, I wrap the hair over the lace, back-comb like its nobody's business, twist the hair, and then use steam to seal it. Another popular method is boiling water. Once the hair has been twisted, emerge it into a pot of boiling water to seal the dread.
I prefer steaming because I don't want to stand over a pot of boiling water. The steamer I had was hand held used for steaming clothes. It was roughly $30. It did a good job up until it broke.

No, I'm far too lazy to maintain a website. However, if you look through this thread, I'm pretty sure I posted some youtube videos on some tips to make yarn braids and synthetic dreads (using steam).

Yeah, cyberlocks are damn nice. Saddy is a freaking genius with them.
Actually, all that tubing and such... where do you find that stuff? I figured a hardware store would be a good start, but I think I'm a bit off on that assumption.

*blush* You're too kind, Kontan.
I get my stuff from an art supplies shop and an auto parts shop

I find lace to be more secure, especially when you have 30-40 dreads per fall.

I don't really do pigtails just because they don't look right on me, so I am doing a single ponyfall with dark burgundy yarn in braids at very varying lengths and skull beads and wide black lace!
