My favorite is probably 28 Days Later.

Just because it's not a "look at how much we can make hyperbole". Except for a few little details, the entire thing felt real.

The Exorcist! Such suspense and repulsive scenes! The shock at the defamed statue in the church! A riveting movie that continued to haunt my mind for months afterwards.

I don't like gore, but stuff that is creepy in a funny way or psychological thrillers are okay:

Something Wicked this Way Comes
Army of Darkness
. . . and a possible new favorite, because the plot is weird and the acting is bad: Satan's School for Girls

In no particular order-

Willard [more a psychological thriller, but still], The Hellraiser Movies, Event Horizon, Silent Hill, Gingersnaps, Texas Chainsaw Massacre [the original], Frankenstein, IT, Candyman, Pet Cemetery...

there are so many other films to list, but my brain seems to have shut off for the moment. o_o;

I like horror as a whole, but needless blood and gore bore me. Watching some murderer kill 5 people is boring. I prefer psychological horror by a lot. I don't really watch that many movies though, I spend my time doing other things.

But the last horror movie I watched that I liked was the Sixth Sense.

[Rec], Nosferatu, Inside, Frontiers, anything '...of the Dead', Gingersnaps, Jacob's Ladder, Cloverfield, Pan's Labyrinth, the Orphanage, Saw I and II, 28 Days and Weeks Later, the Hills Have Eyes (remake, haven't seen the original yet), and I actually really enjoyed Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween.

Also, for comedic value, the Sleepaway Camp series and most other shitty 80's teen slasher films.

[Argh, keep editing when I remember more movies after I post]
