Smoking sucks.

I hate it. It stinks and it's a waste of money. You're paying money to kill yourself. You look retarded puffing on an idiot stick with that fishy face. It makes your hands smell bad.

I have to quit smoking. Again.

I hate smoking. BLARGH.

I know it is a very hard thing to do. I commend you for wanting to quit, for not giving up the fight and trying again. I bet you will succeed this time.

Smoking is something I never really did, and it's hard to imagine being addicted to smokes. I tried them a couple of times, but the only thing they ever did for me was make me sick. As in I'd have a runny nose, sore throat, sometimes a cough, and I was hoarse for hours the few times I've tried them, and seeing as I got nothing else out of it what-so-ever I saw no reason to take up the habit.

If it's any help, I've heard some people say that part of the addiction is having something to do with your hands. If you can find something else to fiddle with or occupy your fingers with when you'd normally want to grab for a cigarette, it might help somewhat. Don't know how those patches or the gum works, but you could always at least give those a try as well.

What techniques have you tried thus far? Saying what you have tried might give people a better idea of what suggestions to give you to help you quit.

I smoke for pleasure rather than addiction. I've never craved a cigarette. I also don't smoke often so when I do buy a pack, I buy some really nice ones like Sobranie blacks ( which are extortionate in price so it puts me off buying loads, plus the box is really posh ) . Yumyum.

Sobranies are fucking delicious. But they are extortionately priced, as honeythorn says.
Davidoffs are nice.

Sobranies are hard to find here in the States, I used to be able to get them in Quebec. I smoke Dunhills or Camels.

I like Davidoffs too. The white pack ( I presume reds are stronger ? ) Less expensive than Sobranies but still quite dear compared to silk cut

Er, nooo haha. I'm from the deepest darkest , shittiest recesses of the Black Country ( West Midlands ) in the UK.

I tell you what I AM after. Ever seen the movie Memoirs of a Geisha? The woman who runs the geisha house, " mother"? I want her cigarette holder! The one held like a pipe. I'd look absolutely preposterous, espescially if wearing my top hat, but by god I want one anyway!

Some company a while back made the cigarette holder Cruella Deville (sp?) from 101 Dalmations had. That was kinda cool.

I rather enjoy it.
People pay for things that kill them all the time, aside from cigarettes.
Pfft.

I actually would like to roll my own. Any tobacco recommendations? Papers?

Golden Virginia is quite nice, American Spirit would be my first choice, but it's difficult to get here. for Cigarette papers, It's a personal preference thing, but I recommend the orange rizlas if you're just learning and the blue ones if you've got the technique down.

Yes, the classics are stronger, other than having a slightly different taste, they have 12mgs of tar and 0,9mgs of nicotine, whereas the golds have 7mgs of tar and 0,6 of nicotine.

I don't understand this thing about the "tar" in smokes.
They put it in there? Why!?

You might have a bit more difficulty 'accepting your mortality' when you're dying of lung cancer thirty years prematurely.

Maybe some of the cigarette smokers hanging around this thread can explain the appeal to me, because I've personally never understood why anyone takes up a smoking habit. I suppose smoking makes one look badass, and I'm sure some cigarettes taste good, but nevertheless I can't help but feel it obvious that the negative consequences involved overwhelmingly outweigh these barely significant benefits.
I totally understand having trouble quitting, but why start?

I can't remember the reason why I started, but I think the habit is largely social. It's basically the same question as "Why drink alcohol?"

Hmmm, I don't know why I started smoking, I was very young. Probably thought it was cool or something, I was very bogan back then. It was easy to quit the first time, then I felt like smoking again for a while, then gave up again. It was probably easier to quit the second time. I will never smoke again, the possible consequences scare me too much, plus I have asthma.
I remember my dad lighting up a smoke one day whilst lecturing me about how bad smoking is, I would've been about sixteen then, I should've done as he said, not as he did.

Not quite the same question. Alcohol has an obvious and often rather fun effect, and it isn't nearly as addictive. How many people have you heard going on about that great night they had when everyone smoked some cigarettes?

I'm not a fan of cigarettes. They seem like a waste of money and lungs to me.

True, but alcohol is destructive as well. If not quite so as tobacco, but destructive nevertheless. Even though alcohol does have a good effect it doesn't offer any benefits to general health.

...I am cutting down.
I feel ashamed because my bf used to disgust me - chainsmoking all the time smoking a pack or more a day and now he has quit. He has a had a few cigarettes but isn't even cranky.
I don't smoke very much but have found that whether it is everything crappy happening to me lately or just that I am horribly addicted - I feel bitchier and nastier than usual if I don't have cigarette after 3 days.

well I think a lot of people lose their inhibitions about dancing when they have had one or two so maybe people who could do with a little excercise could benefit from it... just maybe
