Best Speech Ever?

This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. No joke this almost pulled a tear. And strangest of all is that it's by a comedian. Charlie Chaplin, you had your head on fucking straight.

Anyone else have inspiring words for us?

Only the unloved or the unnatural hate!

I agree with that.

I love that movie! Man, everyone must have caught it on TCM last month because its been making the rounds on the internet lately.

For a kind of pervy guy Chaplin was a good man. Apparently Nazis accused him of being Jewish, he wasn't, but he didn't want to deny he was to show solidarity and its not like being accused of being Jewish was insulting to him. This movie was also made before the Americans entered the war, pretty ballsy at the time, as well as playing a Jewish character in a very positive light.

The only thing that might compete that I can think of off the top of my head was Atticus Finch's speech from To Kill A Mockingbird: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8TgqenWW0I Apparently youtube sucks and there is no actual footage from the movie, just the audio.

I don't think this is a contender to Chaplin, its good but not long, but I really love Inherit The Wind as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_DQUAuNUvw

Also, I think the "inspirational speeches" in movies can go very, very wrong sometimes. The best bad one I think is from Peter Graves in It Conquered The World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzcmS...eature=related

Ah yes, TKAM. Damn good book. And a damn good movie too.

To the second one...oh god that's bloody awful. Like...worse than Colt 45 bloody awful.

By the way, I'm not asking about speeches from movies specifically. Anything that stirs the blood is wanted

By the way Saya, on a completely unrelated note; Dead Peasants Revolt were really cool. You should go see them if you get the chance, if you haven't already.

I actually like the orginal Chaplin speech (The Great Dictator, Limelight and Modern Times are great films ... aren't they?), but didn't dig quite as much some of the added commentary that was imposed by the editors of that video. But on the positive side, while I watched that, I saw the link to THIS:

The Girl Who Silenced The World For 5 Minutes

That's pretty damned good speech-writing and delivery for any age, let alone at the age of 13.

Saya, I agree about Aticus' speech in To Kill A Mockingbird.

Also, I don't know if it's the greatest speech ever, but Lou Gherig's farewell speech is the shortest, sweetest and most graceful exit bow from a man who has an incurable illness that I've ever seen, and it brings me to tears every time I see it. (Another commentary I've found about it said even the hardened sports reporters of the day teared up.) He died at the age of 37.

Lou Gherig's Farewell Speech

I loved that girl's speech. I too found it through the Chaplin vid. It must take a seriously hard hearted bastard to ignore a plea like that. Especially the "everything will be fine, it's not the end of the world. But I don't think you can really tell us that anymore" part.

That is a really great speech. Too bad he's dressed like Hitler while giving the speech.

It's from the movie The Great Dictator, and is a parody of sorts on hitler. Besides, Hitler wore that moustache to copy Chaplin, not the other way around.

I guess that makes sense. Hitler copied Chaplin's look...

And there is a good reason he's wearing the uniform, but you have to watch the movie to find out.

I cry like a little bitch every time I hear this speech. If you've ever seen Charlie Chaplin in "The Kid", know that I cry like a little bitch every time I see that movie too. Charlie Chaplin has some sort of awesome sexy humanitarian vodoo, makes me sad that he's no longer with us.
