Oh, I was responding to her saying that unless you do it a lot, you probably won't lose weight. Sorry, should have used quotes.

Saya Totally agree. Lifestyle changes, being fit and healthy should be at the top of everyone's priority list. It's taken me awhile but it's up there for me now.
So what is your favourite healthy meal?

I've personally developed rather a fondness for hummus. Very easy to make, as well.

'Healthy meal'? Salad, I guess. I'm not allowed to cook anything low-fat or meatless or my husband raises hell for weeks about it. My only option for not gaining weight is to exercise rigorously and eat small portions with my husband accusing me of starving myself.

Aww. I've been slowly converting my family to a lower-meat diet. Mainly because we've been having some financial issues and they realized that beans and chickpeas are a lot cheaper than beef and pork.

My husband would rather we eat the cheapest, nastiest meat on the market than substitute it with anything. I really don't understand where he is getting the mentality from that we need to eat red meat at every meal or something's missing. I think he's been fraternizing with the rednecks a bit too much because he didn't use to hold that belief(or others that have been cropping up, lately).

Yuck. It's not even good for you to have that much red meat. Americans eat far too much meat and not enough other stuff already.

I guess one of the advantages about physical labor is that I don't need to set aside time to exercise to keep from getting out of shape. The problem is that it's harder to control the exercise that I need to get stronger. Anybody have advice?

Make sure you are eating enough. Military is really difficult. I've known a few people that were so busy walking to and from offices and carrying heavy crates they never noticed they were getting a full body workout until leaving the military. They started gaining weight, but with a regular work schedule it was easy to jog a few miles and lift weights to stay in shape.

Its hard to choose! I'm crazy about falafel, so I really like falafel salad/pitas. I bake the falafel instead of frying it to make it a bit healthier. I also eat a lot of curries, stir fries, samosas, burritos, cheeseless pizza, and salads. My favourite snack is popping popcorn in a pot and adding just a little salt and nutritional yeast to make it taste cheesy. I'm not terribly picky though XD

Well, according to the random internet page I pulled, I can lift as much as a medium-strength girl, or at least an intermediate lifter of equivalent weight. As opposed to a medium-strength boy, which I thought I was until I consulted the internet. I've got a few more plates before I'm up to strong-girl standards... XD
It was mostly a tongue-in-cheek statement, didn't mean to make it a thing.

Thing you could link me to that web page? Now I'm intensely curious.

Saya and Versus - will the two of you get a room! (flirty little munchkins)
My favourite healthy meal at the moment is a berry smoothie (frozen raspberries, protein powder, LSA 1 cup of water), although it's friggin' freezing drinking it in the mornings.
And I'd have to say that I love my lazy salad. 1 carrot, 1 small tin tuna, 1 stick of celery, 1 apple - cut it up and chuck it in a bowl, drain tuna put on top and then eat.
Jon It's offical!! According to that chart, I'm up to lifting two cans of tuna and a marshmallow.
Graus If you want to have a go at changing Mr Graus' mind on meat, get a movie called Food Inc. It might put him off cheap meat. Oh I have the same problems with Mr Bat. I actually made a vegan soup the other night from a receipe book suggested by Saya. It was delicious and Mr Bat ate it, and I went on and on about how cheap and easy it was (just to appeal to Mr Bat's cheapass side). But I get really bored with meat. I think if I was on my own, I'd probably go vegan
Versus have you tried substituting other objects for weights? We spoke earlier about using gallon milk containers. It's all about how to use it, and not about what you use.
Got to the gym today, managed 5km and weights (upper body). Hurray!
*goes off to barf rainbows*

Jon, it's okay. I'm too busy puking rainbows to hold a grudge.

There isn't much to work with, but we do have weights here. A 20, 30 and 50 pound dumb bell, a bar and bench, and an incline bench. I kind of have to be creative, but it works.
My issue isn't having enough to work out with, it's that everyday I'm doing some kind of exercise aside from working out. Like today, I lifted a dozen 5 gallon fuel cans above my head to someone to fill the generator and tossed sand bags for a few hours. So that's chest and shoulders, but how do I figure that into what I should do during a work out?
Honestly I've been kind of winging it. I don't really get enough from daily stuff to improve, so I just lift until I'm stiff.
See that? That was innuendo.

Ah! I was thinking that if it wasn't at least a set of five it didn't count. Right now I'm trying to move up 10 lbs a week, I just had to start way way low for having almost no upper body strength. I'm on a M-W-F schedule for it, I'll see if I can jump ahead a little today.
Self-deprecation aside, last week I finally did a set with the 35 lb plates on the bar, and felt like a damn hero. I'll be using big boy weights in no time!
