Gothic for Summer
Ok, I'm pretty sure there isn't a thread about this yet.
It's barely Spring, but the climate is already getting warm over here.
Of course, you don't need to dress gothic to be gothic, but what the spork, I like the style.
I pretty much just have to survive dehydration and keep using black
But, anyone has ideas of an elegant gothic style, preferably not in black, for summer?

You could try the all-white thing. My style tends to degenerate from elegant to grungy (I end up looking like a pirate) when summer comes along, so I can't offer too much help here.

I end up "turning into a guy" over the summer. I wear men's cargo shorts with various t-shirts/tank tops...and somehow I end up looking more feminine than I do normally

Hmm, I live in Lebanon so summer time is melting time. I usually wear short skirts and short sleeves. Jillian, I advise you not to wear a lot of stuff( I read somewhere that you don't like simple clothes) and wear loose pants and teeshirts.

Yeah, I kind of suffer from the same problem. It's pretty hot in here so, like Queenofdarkness said, I tend to wear tee-shirts, pants, and skirts.

personally, i like fishnet shirts =...allows for plenty of airflow. i have seen nice wide-leg black shorts, that also allow for airflow. and like geishagorl said...airconditioning!!

Well, I lived in the humid stickiness of New Orleans for 21 years, including the hottest summers in the world, according to many well-traveled friends.
In the summer there, I would wear a black sundress (or any other color sundress, black is just my favorite) or a tank top and skirt, and flip flops. If I got tired of looking too boring or normal, I would wear some cool jewelry or dye my hair. A lot of "goth" people in NO tend to have the "pirate" look anyway, so Circle V, you would fit right in!
But you have to be careful there, when showing too much skin because the paler your skin, the more mosquitoes love you!

I don't really wear anything special for summer, I just take off my jacket. usually. I'm a pretty cold-blooded person and have been noted to wear a jacket in 80+ degree whether.
Otherwise, skirts are nice. I hate shorts. I'm so sorry I can't help, Jillian, because I have no idea what a guy in your situation would wear... but for me it's Goso-Rori weather!!

I wear all the brightest colours in the world and I still get labeled a goth.
When will the n00bs understand that I am an anime character?

A simple solution to all your summer problems: just go out after 9:00 pm. You can wear whatever the hell you want. But of course this doesn't work for many. =D

I like wearing corsets and tops and all kinds of mini-skirts in summer. The bad thing is, you get easier sunburnt when you don't have shirts on. But I stay a lot inside during the summer I hate sunshine
if you don't like wearing corsets when it's hot then band t-shirts are a good choice too. Converses are better than boots during warm days.

You can still wear black in the summer. I'm with all the people standing behind the mighty power of A.C.

Yeah, I live in a hellishly hot climate and I still can't keep away from black. I just make it cotton, usually the gauzy hippy material for skirts. And I wear those Roman sandal/gladiator thingys 'cause I hate flip flops.

Do it the Middle Eastern way. They wear long complete body covering garments and still manage to survive. I heard it actually helps to stay cool because that way you don't get sunburnt and if the material's thin enough, it'll let a nice breeze through. I think it's pretty elegant looking myself, as well.

That's basicly my summer time solution.
Except I heard they have mosquitos the size of small birds up so I don't know about that this year.
I wear shorts and sandels and not much else.

As summer approaches, I begin to wear more and more jewelery and less and less layers of clothing. I need a pirate-y hat, dammit.
When I visit Texas, I wear short sleeves and run from air-conditioned building to air-conditioned building.

It actually started out as a Bedoin thing, then since the first Muslims were Bedoins it became a Muslim thing.
I have the problem of heat all through the year. My solution is one part air conditioner, one part light materials. Though I still can't resist the pull of velvet and leather, so I just end up suffering anyway.

Ya sure it's better than slutty dressing, but not quite close to elegant( in my opinion). Oh and the smell, ew it's just HORRIBLE.

No one wears those in Lebanon. But I remember in Dubai and Jordan( the desert countries), those arabs smelled awful. They sweat a lot(obviously because of the climate) and I think the odor has something to do with the the fabric of their clothes. I don't think they notice that. I mean hello, Antipersperant.

OOh, I love travelling. I'm hoping to get a year off after graduating highschool and planning to travel around the world. I don't think that's going to happen.
OOh btw, guess what Xng? I'm travelling to the Sates this summer. I can't wait.

Speaking of air conditioning, my parents used to keep their a/c set at 80 degrees F to save energy, even when it was 99 degrees outside. So I got really used to being in hot temperatures.
In New Orleans, I used to see a lot of goth people walking around in August wearing velvet and tall boots, and I always thought they were crazy. I knew right away that they were from out of town.
