Haircuts/Hairstyles/Hair Color Mega Thread
So I dyed my hair black a few months ago, and now its falling out. It never did this any other time, so why now? Does anyone know what do to go get it to stop?

I think you should see a doctor, seriously, your hair shouldn't be falling out, especially if it was only black dye.

Could have been a bad chemical reaction. Did you dye your hair just recently, before this time?
How much hair falling out are you talking about?

Could be too long? Hair breaks, especially treated hair, after it gets too heavy.
I thought my hair was falling out when it was long, but it stopped when I cut it, so I'm pretty sure the hair was just breaking from its own weight.
However, better safe than sorry. See a doctor.

Odd. I've never had my hair fall out, and I've dyed it for years (including an attempt to go platinum blonde that was quite interesting in that when I put on big sunglasses to hide my dark eyes and eyebrows, I looked a bit like an albino). Hopefully it's just because of the length... still, it's strange that it'd fall out from black dye. I could see if it was some harsh bleaching process or something...
Anything else you've done differently besides the dye? I know stress or changes in diet can affect your hair, especially if you're not eating enough protein and vitamins.

Ex: Buns, braids, etc.,....

Haircuts/Hairstyles/Hair Color Mega Thread
I want to grow my hair out like this dudes, but he wears it a bit too long in the front. I'd snip it up to about eye level, and I'd also color it all bright black.
Does this look good or do you all think it's dumb?

That's a DUDE?!! Wow, I knew plenty of gothic guys look profoundly femmy but DAMN. How can so many guys be prettier than me?
Anyway, I'm sure it will compliment your face lavishly, as long you don't have a stupid face like mine. What is the shape of your face/head? You should post a picture.

DOH!!
I can't edit that last post so ignore the last sentence and don't flame me. I just saw your old picture, to make sure I wasn't asking a lame question; which I did.
Yeah, that would look perfect.

All hairdye fades. Just redo it a lot, or better yet, dye it, let it completly dry out, and then dye it again. That'll give you some build up.

Some dye brands fade quicker than others, too. If you're using a temporary dye it'll fade really quickly. Reds fade more quickly than browns or blacks, too.
I use permanent dye on mine. I use Hydrience, by Clairol, in #34 which is an intense dark burgundy... I've found that it fades a lot less quickly than some of the others-- as a matter of fact the time I did it before, I had to redye because I had rather noticeable blackish roots as opposed to because it faded, so the Hydrience is a good one to get. It's also less irritating than a lot of the other permanent dyes.
If you're using a temporary dye, especially an interesting colour (meaning blue etc) or a red, be prepared to re-dye a lot. They're called "temporary" for good reason.

Well you can get long lasting odd colors such as red/blue/purple. The thing is those have to be professionally done because the chances of you frying your hair and making it all fall out are very very high. That's why all the odd colors you can find in the store are temporary, vegtable based dyes and not a longer lasting chemical based dye.
Another suggestion for keeping the uber temporaries in like Manic Panic and the like. Before you dye your hair, bleach the fuck out of it. Not enough to cook your hair and turn it into elastic (I've seen it happen) but just enough to damage it a bit and give it a straw like texture. Yes your hair will be damaged, but in all the cracks, crevases and potholes you now have in your hair the dye will find a place to call home and will hang around more in your hair. Just make sure once your totaly done to put in a fuckton of leave in conditioner, since you did just destroy your hair afterall. Using this method I was able to keep purple in my hair for a good month and a half before I had to do any touchups.

My hair color faded, it was a nice pretty burgundy. I want to do it again since my normal brownish color is coming in again but I don't have the money to buy the dye nor could I do it by myself.

Actually, there is a way to keep your color fresh between touch ups.
John Freeman and several other hair product companies make a shampoo and a condtioner with 'color' in it.
They have everything from several different shades of red, blonde, brown and black..
Up until today I have been a deep Burgundy Red for months, and I buy the darkest Red shampoo that Freeman makes, and use it everytime I wash my hair. The amount of dye in the shampoo is enough to keep my color fresh and bright between colorizations..
You can get any of these products at Sally Beauty Supply or most grocery stores. You should find it near the 'finer' shampoo/condtioners, or hair color products..
For a deep Red, find the darkest shampoo color you can find, and use it once a day or once every other day..
