Particularly because no one's really saying that loli.ta is COMPLETELY sexual. We're saying that it definitely has sexual undertones, and is a bit mature for a 12 year old girl.

Yeah, that wasn't cool.

Having an acquaintance this past semester who was very much into both neovictorian and lol!ta fashion, my opinion on the matter (as it was discussed to a degree) is that the style isn't suppose to be sexual, nor is that the reason it is worn (unlike bondage pants, spiked collars and exposed corsets are). If anything, especially when worn to be modest, it is a conveyance of innocence, elegance and personality (same with the neovictorian attire).

That said, I have a issue with the idea that any 12 year old would be exploring the fashions of a subculture. Seems a bit odd for someone that young. Fourteen-plus, sure. But at twelve you are still a child in my mind. I wouldn't want a sibling or child of mine deciding to be a metalhead, goth, emo, lol!ta, punk, etc at twelve. That's a time to still be growing as a person. With you get into high school, then cliques and subcultures can begin to enter your world and persona.

Scarily enough, it also represents the turn this topic has taken.

I have a problem with this, too.

Just because someone is a parent doesn't mean he or she should be a parent, it doesn't mean he or she is a good parent, and it certainly doesn't mean he or she should be giving out advice.

Not only that, but not having kids does not mean a person is completely ignorant and unwise on a subject relating to parenting.

Well, massive fucking idiot as I may be, according to your view I'm still quite a bit more intelligent than most Japanese people, who are so totally ignorant that they can't even acknowledge the connotations of a word derived from a book that has been translated into their language and is popular in their country.

Okay, this is my input.

Most people in the western world will see a girl dressed in l0lita and just see a girl looking gothy in loads of frills.....is that sexual in the western world? Well, no actually. Does it look too adult to us?....no.

I wasn't even aware of the sexual undertones of l0lita and i'm sure the average guy in the west wouldn't either.

Sexuality is percieved in a totally different way here, if my daughter was dressed in nothing but a mini skirt and a tube top....then yes, i'd see that as inappropriate because that is percieved as sexuality in the western world.

Plus you have to remember, a peado is going to be a peado no matter what your child is wearing.

The women often offer themselves in these outfits as innocent young girls, and it can be seen as an appeal to the pedo in some older men.

You cannot mindlessly attack someone just because they have a different opinion and then have no way to back yourself up other than 'there's no connection because I said so!' Grow up.

And I have sufficiently fed the troll.
"I'm sure" - in other words you have no fucking idea yet still seem to think your opinion is somehow valid here.

I don't have to respect an opinion merely for being an opinion. If someone's opinion has ABSOLUTELY no backing whatsoever apart from some anal technicality, then I do not have to respect that opinion.

OK, so you're a dumbfuck, and are anti critical thinking, making you wrong on just about everything. Good to know.

That's because there ARE none. Gothic.net people tend to have some... odd views on things. Except where it's purposely so(Ero-Loli), Elegant Gothic ****** has no sexual connotations.

The japanese don't perceive it as sexual either.

Kind of late with the commenting here, but I think it's good of Megansmom to be checking out the things that her girls are wanting to wear. How many 11, 12, 13 etc. year old girls do you see all the time walking around like they'r extras in some porn? All the freaking time. How do they get these slutty clothes? Why, with money that Mommy and Daddy give them. These kids will go out, buy whatever they want and then come back with their parents not even checking out what was bought, then they wear them with the parents not even giving a rat's a ss about what their kids are wearing out into the world.

Yeah, Megansmom, I wouldn'd let my daughter wear ****** clothes. There is some cute things, but there are some things that go into the bad territory. Good for you to be checking up on what your kids are interested in. More parents should be pro-active in their childrens' life. I wish my mom had been.
