With hair crimpers. You get sections of hair and put them between the hot plates.

yeah that works too, the tighter the plait is means the crimp will stay in longer

Small, tight plaits done with wet hair work best. Be sure to plait as far down as possible, so the entire length is crimped. In the morning, GENTLY run a brush through them.

Is that hairstyle coming back or something?
In the 80's, almost every girl in school had their hair crimped.

I wouldn't go spending money on a hair crimper if plaiting works just as well.
A friend of mine crimps her hair often. She puts it in really tight plaits when it's wet before she goes to bed and then wraps a silk scarf around it. Her hair is beautiful.
Good luck crimping!

Well I don't want it all crimped, just bits.

Ok, ignore my crimping advice from the other thread, haha.
If you want sections just go with very small plaits. A crimping iron is only really necessary when you need to do your whole head done with even crimps (plaits will only be as even as your plaiting skills are).
Just one thing: some people's hair (aka my own) fluffs up REALLY stupidly when the crimped sections are brushed. Keep hairbrushes well alway unless you're sure that won't happen >_<

And remember to use heat protector spray if you're using crimpers to avoid hair damage.
If you have long hair like me...it does take a very long time.

If you want to make sure to avoid that fluffy look, just comb through your hair with your fingers. That works best when I do it, which is often. Just don't get too carried away with it, b/c once it does get fluffed, there is no going back!!

Yeah, fingers are the go now. But the fluffiness does come in handy pre-Siouxsie-teasing. Gets the height and volume going, haha.
Whenever I used to get my hair braided in Bali and such (the really tiny braids with beads on the end) I'd take it out, brush the hell out of it, and rock an afro for a few days. Oh, to be five again...

Okay this is how i do it i hope this is somehow helpful :}
1] Brush your hair just enough to detangle anything that needs to be.
2] Put your crimper on to heat up let it get really hot don't leave it next to anything that can catch fire or melt, this should take about 10-15 minutes because you want it REALLY hot.
3] Spray your hair with hairspray something good that will hold it in place and not smell to bad when your hair is crimping/cooking
http://www.matrixbeautiful.com/produ..._freezing.aspx
4] Start from your hairline and pick up very small sections and crimp holding the crimper for about. 30 seconds and then move down to the next bit of hair. Continue this until all hair is crimped making sure you do the top of your head as well. Because it will look silly without the top bit being done as well.
5] Spray your new crimps with some more hairspray they should feel tight and look even :} happy crimping !
More good hairsprays that a more budget friendly then matrix hair products.

I like using the hair crimping iron, but it will look fluffy if you braid your hair in lots of small braids when it's wet and leave it in overnight. In the morning, just take the braids out and use a comb to comb your hair. If you crimp your hair with the braids, you won't have to worry about heat damage from the hair crimper.

I often used a hair accessories to crimp hair. I think it's very good. You can try it.

If you don't want frizzy fluffy hair then just add a little bit of smoothing serum or another wax type or gel product to your hair and the plait your hair.
If you add too much product your hair might look greasy or wet though so go easy on it. Also, depending on what you use your hair might be stiff. So choose hairspray or harsher products if you are fine with that, otherwise just use mild serums/waxes.

I can't do the braid with wet hair thing. It never dries by the time I'm ready to take it out. I've even tried blowdrying the braids befpre I take them out and the middle's always still wet. I have to get one of those 3-prong crimpers and see if that works better.

Can anyone recommend a crimping iron? I bought one but it doesn't seem to work very well?

You can use a crimping iron to treat your hair or you could by braid the hair in multiple strands, then undoing the braids.

Immediately after bathing, showering whatnot...take your hair into a tight ponytail and try to get about 8-10 small plaits from the top down to the tips of your hair, then put an elastic over the top of the plait.
If you want some closer to your head, do a few plaits before you put it up.
Works for me. xD

That would be cool, tho I've just realized I don't think my hair is long enough. I'd love to see how it comes out tho.
