Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Know some good music like Switchblade Symphony?

Lately I've been trying to find some good bands to listen to because lately the music I've been listening to just isn't cutting it. I turn on my IPod and realize that half of what is on there sucks. I used to like like said crappy music but lately I've been finding out that its just ok at best. In fact some of it is crap. I mean Good Charlotte, PATD, Linkin Park, Evanscence, My Chemical Romance, Sum 41, All American Rejects, Atreyu, Bleeding Through and even Flyleaf are ok and occasionally I listening to them ( especially since its already on my IPOD) but I think y tastes may have changed because they just fail to inspire me anymore and in some cases I just have to turn it off. I tried looking around and getting suggestions and I got a lot of gothic symphonic metal bands since I like some hardcore/metalcore. I checked them out, and gothic symphonic metal is good but once again I know there is better stuff out there. Switchblade Symphony came up in the music forum ( don't remember what thread) so I checked them out and discovered that I loved them. I bought Serpentine Gallery. I haven't heard music this good in a long time, if ever. So since everyone here seems to be reasonably intelligent, I decided to ask if anyone knew any other good bands. Please, I am in dire need of better music and no it doesn't have to be some band that Hot Topic sells shirts for which you may think because of the bands I named. Those are the bands that I'm getting sick of but it can be mainstream if its good.

Have you tried disconnecting it, then plugging it back in again?

I absolutely ADORE Switchblade Symphony! Here's a list of some other bands I like:

-- Rasputina
-- Cruxshadows
-- Ayria
-- Faith and the Muse
-- I:Scintillia
-- Android Lust
-- Collide
-- Depeche Mode
-- The Psychedelic Furs
-- Cocteau Twins

Etc. and so on. Feel free to browse a station like Pandora or Last.fm to find more artists that are similar to the ones you enjoy! I used 'em when I was looking for some different music, and it was really really useful!

London After Midnight are fantastic.
I dislike Within Temptation, but you might not.

Good list. Better than the rest of the crap in the thread by far.

I don't really like Switchblade Symphony, but the Cruxshadows and the Birthday Massacre are probably up your alley.

Cool, it's pretty late though, so I'll give you some Doom Metal to check out for now, and if you like that, I can put together "The Big List" tomorrow.

Anyway, it's the closest thing in metal to "goth" rock. Really dark, really slow stuff. Yummy.

My Dying Bride are a classic, but a little overrated if you ask me (best albums: "Like Gods of the Sun" "Turn Loose The Swans" "The Angel and the Dark River")

Ahab (they're funeral doom, you'll hear why)

Paradise Lost (My personal favorite band. Albums: "Draconian Times" is probably their best, "Icon" "Paradise Lost")

Oh, and check out the band Austere. Really good Depressive Black Metal band.

Anyway, tell me what you think, and I'll give you more.

I know the feeling. Switchblade Symphony was actually the first "gothic" band I got into. From there, I'd suggest looking into Clan of Xymox, London After Midnight and Diary of Dreams, then working your way up to stuff like Bauhaus and Christian Death. Razorbladekisses is actually very similar to Switchblade, but their stuff is so hard to find.
