Uhhh yeah..

Call me humorless if you will, but I don't laugh at pictures of our dead soldiers..

Whether they are fighting a just war or not, they still gave their lives for our country..

-10 for being not funny at all..

I'm sure someone else will find it humorous...

I have too many friends deployed in Iraq to be amused, however..

--David Letterman

While speaking to the Hoover Institution today, Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was asked this question: "Could you tell us why to date at least the Administration doesn't favor direct talks with the North Korean government? After all, we're talking with the French." The Secretary smiled and replied: "I'm not going there!"

"The French are a smallish, monkey-looking bunch and not dressed any better, on average, than the citizens of Baltimore. True, you can sit outside in Paris and drink little cups of coffee, but why this is more stylish than sitting inside and drinking large glasses of whiskey I don't know."
--- P.J O'Rourke (1989)

"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion."
--Norman Schwartzkopf

"A long time ago, Britain and France were at war. During one battle, The French captured an English major. Taking the major to their headquarters, the French general began to question him. The French general asked, "Why do you English officers all wear red coats? Don't you know the red material makes you easier targets for us to shoot at?"

In his bland English way, the major informed the general that the reason English officers wear red coats is so that if they are shot, the blood won't show and the men they are leading won't panic.

And that is why from that day to now all French Army officers wear brown pants."

i know those weren't photoshopped, but they WERE too funny to pass up.

now, a little bit o' cartoon-age.

Knowing that an American citizen thinks it's amusing to mock our Fallen Soldiers, makes it even LESS amusing..

Mock our government, Mock our politicians, Mock our President, but NEVER MOCK our Fallen Soldiers..

They died fighting for something that they believed in.

They gave their lives for our Country and for the lives of people around the world.

You may not agree with why they are there, but I however do not see the Honor nor the Respect in belittling the depth of the Sacrifice that these Men and Women chose to make..

/ End Rant

yeah right.

Liberation of France

During the Italian campaign of 1943, 100,000 Free French soldiers fought on the Allied side. By the time of the Normandy Invasion, the Free French forces numbered more than 400,000 people. The Free French 2nd Armoured Division, under General Philippe Leclerc, landed at Normandy and eventually led the drive towards Paris. The Free French 1st Army, under General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, joined the Allied invasion of southern France, and took Alsace.

End of the war

By September 1944, the Free French forces stood at 560,000, which rose to 1 million by the end of 1944, and were fighting in Alsace, the Alps and Brittany. By the end of the war in Europe (May 1945), the Free French forces comprised 1,250,000, including 7 infantry and 3 armoured divisions fighting in Germany.

I really don't think that the purpose of this picture was to 'mock' your fallen slodiers but rather to open your eyes..
Time has come to bring back your soldiers from this meaningless war don't you think?

Now if you feel this picture too disturbing just delete the link, i never meant to mock your soldiers but your president who always postpone the end of the occupation. Even if the main goal of this war is now achieved. (saddam is out, no weapon of mass destruction,...what is he waiting for?)

How does a mocking depiction of our Fallen help bring them 'Home' any faster??

Oh right.. It doesn't..

And no, I don't need to delete the link, I was merely voicing my distaste at the trivialization of our Courageous and Brave..

And as to your suggestion that we should have pulled out of Iraq by now..

We started the conflict, we have no choice now but to see it through to the end, Bitter or otherwise..

To do less, would be Undiluted Cowardice...

Simple as that...

Political photoshop thread doesn't automatically mean that it's all jokes.
I believe Fallen Angel's post shows Bush doing what he did (that footage of him in the Oval Office looking for WMDs) for real: making fun of and trying to downplay all of those who accused him of lying, when in fact, its making fun of all who died for that lie (unintentionally, of course, but when did he ever care for other people's sensibilities?). It's an insult to people who sent their children and brothers to save the world from a lie.

All of the US soldiers that fell before the "end of the war" died to free their country and the world from the weapons of mass destruction. Bush's joke is an insult to all that died in the conflict while that was the lie at the time. The image depicts that. It reminds people that PLENTY of US soldiers died trying to save their country from WMDs. I mean what's the reason this week? Finding Saddam. Securing the Oil fields. Stabilizing the region. Nation-building. Promote democracy. Shit man, they still waiting for water and power to be restored in most places.

My 2 cents.

Find me someone with family doing a tour of duty there who agrees that their loved one should be there and not at home. Does anyone know wht these families are going through on the homefront? It can't be easy, surely. It can't be all patriotism and an overwhelming sense of duty.

More like in Monty Python: the beauty of military life; no questions, only orders...

Sorry Mael, I have said this about American Democrats (I doubt FallenAngel is a Frenchie): If you condone in anyway shape or form that kind of humor, or consider yourself believing the same things with someone who does something like that, you aren't worthy of any kind of political debate. I mean look at what you have to resort to in order to get your point across? There are better ways of doing it, but why bother being civil about it when you can hit low and quick?

This is why I tried staying out of this part of the site...many of those I tried to debate with are below me and my peers and have no quams about getting their point across, even if it is gross and despicable.

I know a couple of Soldiers whose families fully support their decision to enlist and their decisions to request deployment to Iraq..

It is terribly hard on both friends and family..

Everyday we all scan the Papers and pray that another day passes without seeing their name listen among the KIA..

It is nerve-wracking and heartbreaking.. But their is a fine line between feeling conflicted about the reason they are there in the first place, and acceptance and respect for their decision to join the battle..

My friend Jay may not exactly understand or agree with why he is is here, but he feels that as a soldier, it is his duty to be there in the thick of it all, with his fellow comrades.

He didn't feel it was fair for him to languish in safety, removed from Imminent Danger, while his brothers in arms were dodging RPG's..

And again, I never questioned Angel's right to post such a cartoon, I only observed that to me it cheapens the memory of our Fallen, even FURTHER than they have already been cheapened by the Media and by the Powers That Be, on so many levels..

I just don't think it's funny or even ironic to make a political statement at the expense of soldiers that lost their lives in battle...

But that's me.. I also stated that I am sure someone ELSE would find it funny, and that's okay.

To each his own, I just couldn't in good conscience sit here without expressing my feelings on the subject..

My 7.4 Cents...

Its out of respect forJay and the other soldiers in-arms-way that the commandet-in-chief should never try to downplay in a joking manner the reason why he said they should be in-arms-way in the 1st place.

What does the mother of one of the fallen think when she outlived her son and the president is making jokes about looking 'round the oval office for WMDs? Do you think she doesn't feel diminished in her pain? Do you think she might just feel cheated?

Al amd all the Republicans out there-let this be simple-don't EVER try claiming the moral superiority of your side as far as debating is concerned. It's a complete and utter BS stance when those you follow have made their careers out of "divide and conquer". Sorry, but it needs to be called out, and if you guys wanna try calling out Dem's on it, you shouldn't be so cowardly as to call out your own side on it as well.

That is all.

who's claiming moral superiority?

and a debate is a debate is a debate. the dems / liberals / socialists will say what they will and shouldn't cry foul when they're countered - especially when THEY'RE the ones behind every "divide and conquer" statement provided to the media.

and i'm not even a republican...

What video? It was a slide show and it was part of a re-cap on the entire year's events. Topical humor meant to make fun of himself and his administration on everything from the using trading cards to remember the names of all the G-8 leaders to discussing John Kerry's foreign policy.

Funny thing is, alot of the journalists who wrote negative articles on it were the very people seen laughing at this entire slideshow. It's customary at these banquets for presidents to make jokes about themselves. Much like President Clinton make light of the fact that he blatantly lied under oath to the entire nation durring his presidency.
