Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

I don't usually get picked on for the way I dress, because even though I may not be a very bold, kick ass kind of person. My friends are. People at my school are terrified of being beaten up by them, so they leave me alone and find it rather peculiar how the school bullys just happen to be friends with the nerds.

I've had people run away from me screaming nonsensically about a "creepy white nigga" and when i go for walks it seems alot of people honk there horns and scream asshole. then some people just tell me they like my hair or stare in confusion apparently trying to figure out my gender or something.

I've never really had many problems with people making fun of my appearance, a few shouts from cars ("matrix" and "goff") and one time a guy turned to look at me as he was driving past and laughed. I find it's mostly dependant on where you are, when I was living in a small town quite far up the valleys I had a lot of comments shouted from cars but when I'm in cardiff nobody gives me second glance (hell, most don't even give a first).
I've never had anything said to my face either, only shouted from cars can't really think why.
I don't dress very goth anyway though so that might be the reason. I've had a few compliments over the years, one woman walked up to me and said she liked my hair and one guy said "I like your style, man" as he walked past.

Someone got out of their car to scream at me yesterday, no word of a lie, lol!
He just stopped got out, screamed at me, got back in his car and then drove away.
I stood there for 5 minutes trying to fathom what the hell had just happened. People think i'm wierd, but seriously....who does that!?

Someone once leaned out of the passenger side window of the car next to me on a highway and took a picture, it was a little creepy and a lot strange but apparently it happens. I have also been asked to be in a bdsm video while I was at a gas station, I just kind of blinked at the guy in a very confused manner and then got into my car. People do weird shit sometimes

Yea, well today I was walking from the mall to the bus station, and on my way I passed a mother and her kid. I saw the mother glance at me and say to her kid, "stay away from freaks". that sucked, it showshow judgmental people can be in Sault Ste Marie Canada.

I have been teased, yes. If you are not willing to accept and understand that by dressing goth you are asking to be teased, don't dress differently.

I never get teased or harrassed by anyone.... with the exception of a group of hillbillies that constantly call me "Bubba", or "Queer Boy", but they're not even worth my attention, and I don't get bothered by anyone, cause a lot of people are scared of me. xD
Often people like to comment me on my hair, or on the plugs I wear(which are a lovely 3/4" ^^), but aside from that people keep quiet.

Not to be a bitch-Oh, who am I kidding?
Opteron, you're like Dr. Orpheus when it comes to dead threads. Except that Dr. O is awesome.
DarkPrayer, wasn't your ass the one who was always moping around the boards aboot being discriminated against for being a thorough gloom cookie in spite of some, if not all, of the tales being overblown or fake?
And to be on topic, it's kind of a "No shit, Sherlock!" deal because a black chick going about in stripy outfits and shredded and bleached gear isn't exactly going to be a quiet/normal event.

I actually get a shit ton of compliments for how I dress.
But that may be because I'm pretty much the only girl on campus that doesn't wear sweatpants tucked into ugg boots.
Gross.

Dear Crucifix,
It's an occupational hazard. They're just jealous because they haven't got what it takes to pull it off.
As a beauty I am not a star,
There are others more handsome by far,
But my face, I don't mind it, for I am behind it --
It's the people in front that I jar.

People don't really mock me, but they do criticize. All the fucking time. It's gotten so that there dosen't need to be anyone around, I can imagine certian people's angry, disapproving voices berating me over every little thing I say and do. I try not to let it get to me, but it does.

Ugg boots=blehhhh. They make people look like Muppets to me.
I was made fun of when I was in school, but now it amuses me. Usually if someone says something to me they are the ones who look as if they woke up that morning and dressed in the dark, and all of their clothes came from the trash dump.

You know, I hate to point this out, but if people approving of you is a major influence in your life, you're probably in the wrong sub-culture.
Personally, I was teased and criticized before I started gothing up, I'm criticized now, and I'll be criticized in the future. It's in people's nature, and the sooner you realize that it can't do anything to you the better.
One thing I've learned is that you can't make anyone happy all of the time, so I guarantee that you are either going to have to learn to ignore people, or be miserable, goth or not.

That really blows. Is it a church youth group? I'd just say 'I wouldn't be coming here if I was a devil worshiper...is <insert somebody who doesn't go's name here> a devil worshiper?'
I've been teased, but that was at a school where people loved the labels.

Yeah, it was my ass. I've stopped. I've realised it was somewhat my fault. I'm practically asking to be discriminated. if I hated it so much, I'll I'd have to do was go to a Lululemon or Aritzia shop, buy their clothes, and I would be fine. But I don't want that. So I've stopped complaining and just learned to live with it.

I shit you not, I've been told this so many damned times... especially when I was in the service.
What's even better is when people take up for you though. This one guy was talking shit about me being gay and stupid for dressing like a freak.
So this girl says, "Honestly, I'd rather fuck him a thousand times before I'd ever fuck you. At least he's hot and interesting. And he has guts."

If you get lade fun of it's probably because you look silly in the style you are in. I've found that to be true. Yes some people make fun of anyone who is different, but most will recognize that something looks good on you even if it is not something they would personally wear.

You know when I was little (like 4-9) we'd go to the mall and see punks and goths with their hair all done up and multiple colors and my mother would make fun of them and then ask me what I thought of them,I regret now telling her what she wanted to hear instead of telling her how much I envied them and now I am goth.hahaha I wonder what she really thinks of it.
