Smith & Ugly - Below (2015-A)

I hope this is the right place for this kind of thing...

I wanted to share with you a song from one of the last projects I worked on.
'Smith & Ugly' was the unofficial name. It was a side project with an old friend. We haven't done much to promote this material, and I thought why not try here.

If you are interested, You can check it out here...

Thank You, My Lady. You are too kind.
My friend, Agent Smith (Who is singing), did all the mixing, and a couple of guitar parts. It wouldn't sound half as good if it wasn't for his talent.

You are most welcome to stalk my page, AS LONG as you don't mind me haunting yours...
Which,... I wanted to tell you,... Was top-to-bottom delicious.
I cannot recall a single thing that wasn't eye candy. The Photos were Great!
Perhaps after I get my head straight, and back into the swing of things, You wouldn't mind sharing some of your technical wisdom.

Oh.. And I should also tell you... that wasn't the first time I've seen your page.
I actually came across it back in September, or October. Right before, or Just around the time I started hang'n around here. I thought it was a magazine or community page. So, when I looked at it the other day, and slowly realized who it was. I was a bit shocked.

It's a small world... I guess.

Awww bless <3
Many thanks mon cher!
I found it somewhat difficult to be myself on FB.
On our personal profile pages we have a motley crue.
Family, friends, new acquaintances .. lol random adds from requests.
It's hard to be 'that' person .. if ya get me?
My NCG page is a little sanctuary where I can potter about and be myself.
Or rather, be Anise o.O lmao

I can't believe you like my personal photo efforts!
Jeeeeeeez man! The stuff you shoot is inspirational!
I know a bad workman always blames his tools, but I gotta say I am working with a grumpy old Canon D60 lol .. and tbh I'm lazy! I have a couple of film cameras; Mamiya, Rolleiflex, Pentax and a Holga .. but there's that lazy me again! Pffft lazyitis bro! Your images are super inspirational tho, so maybe I'll get my finger out

This is great stuff, Priapism. I think it's very hard to successfully pull of this kind of vocal style, but your friend did an amazing job. There's a great balance of guitar and synth - just the right amount of each throughout the song. If you had an album, I'd happily buy it.

Thank You Gentlemen!
It's been a long, and trying past couple of days,
But, Reading your comments... has lifted me a bit.

Jiangshi,
I wish I had an album to give you. While we had some other loose ideas,
I'm afraid, we only managed to complete 2 songs. (So Far???)
To put it lightly... There has been many distractions these past few years.
If you haven't already heard it from my Soundcloud page,
I can offer you this... (My favorite of the two)

Pasiflora
https://soundcloud.com/ugly912/pasiflora

Stormbringer,
If you got some cool 'Harpsichord Fantasias and Toccatas', send em my way.
I would love to check them out. Always down for some new sounds!
Not familiar with much harpsichord music, so it'll be new to me.

Thanks Again... You Guys Rock!

Ok Priapism, here's one of my favourite pieces, I'm not familiar with the player but he does an excellent job of what is a very difficult, mid 18th century French piece. This is the music that Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour would have been familiar with. Pancrace-Royer, the composer, is not that well known but he deserves to be. This is a march 'March of the Scythians' from his only opera. It sounds very modern in its dramatic changes of mood. See what you think. Oh and headphones are recommended.

*WARNING*
It's 5:08am here, and I haven't sleep in a couple days so I'll probably word this all goofy.
BUT....

Baroque Composer?
Sounded Baroque to me, but I'm honestly not very familiar with too many of them. As cliché as this may sound I like a lot of Bach (Especially Pipe Organ Pieces), but I'm not one of those people who can just recite composition names. (I know this is horrible, but to me they are known as Track 1, Track 2,..etc.) I have always been drawn to music with a touch of... Well, Baroque influence... I guess.
I've never heard of 'Pancrace Royer' before, and don't recall having ever heard that piece.
I enjoyed it. And based on what I just watched I find myself compelled to show you something I think you might enjoy... Maybe?
The past few years I've been getting into this thing coming out of France, and Italy called BaroqueCore. I planned on eventually getting around to starting a thread about it. It can be a little hard to digest at first. And everyone I know thinks I've lost my shit when I listen to it. But I really like it!
(You'll either like it, Or HATE it. That seems to be the deal with baroquecore)
I don't know were to start. So...Here goes...

Igorrr - Tout Petit Moineau (Live)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=1Rk1K5Mmnbg
Igorrr - Scarlatti 2.0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=yILTEayQmj0
Corpo Mente - Fia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=pn6ZWdM2sn0

I Love Laure Le Prunenec. Totally addicted to that voice!
Hope You Enjoy.
And yes... Headphones.

Amazing! Wow. I must say I wholeheartedly approve. I'm all for one style influencing another, no matter how far removed from each other they are in space or, as here, in time. It happens in all the other art forms, so why not music.

One of the prime example of this to my mind is one of my all time favourite songs, Evanescence's 'Lachrymosa' which uses material from Mozart's Requiem.

I really liked Igorrr's 'Tout Petit Moineau' - obviously a classically trained singer. Corpo Mente had a Spanish flamenco aspect to it - again very evocative. The vid also reminded me of the 1920s photography of Man Ray. But that video by the beach with the spooky child was brilliant. Igorr's other piece uses harpsichord music by the 18th century Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti (hence the title), and didn't really appeal to me as much as the other two but thanks for including it.

I've been listening to Baroque music since 1984 - there's about 150 years worth of it! Not all of it is excellent, like all styles it produced sublime masterworks alongside hackwork. While many of the Baroque composers are household names, there are many others that are still virtually unknown. Joseph Nicolas Pancrace-Royer is certainly one. Are you familiar with Enigma? Primarily their 'MCMXC' album. Beautiful, dark, mysterious and sexy - but then it's French!

HaHa... Yeah, I am familiar with Enigma.
That album came out around the time I was starting high school.
It's funny in retrospect... The song 'Sadness' is about this guy Marquis de Sade. Who wrote this very explicit book (For his time) called '120 Days of Sodom'.
I used to own a copy of his book, and honestly I don't give it high ratings. It can be rather funny, but not really good erotica. If my memory serves me, there was a lot of Friggering and Buggering, and Chickens, and I believe there was a Cannon as well. I think he wrote it in prison.. or something.
But anyways... A song about the very man we get the term 'Sadist' from,
and it sounds like Soft Porn music with Gregorian chanting over it.
Such an odd combination. Too Funny!
What's even funnier is... I Have That CD. I came across it while packing for a move a few years back. I haven't listened to it in many years.

Now Requiem, I am familiar with. But not so much Evanescence.
I know who they are, but never got exposed to much of their material.
I'll have to give it a listen. AND if you can suggest any other good dark flavored Baroque composers, My headphones are at the ready!

Ah yes, Monsieur La Marquis De Sade. I've got a great biography of him. He narrowly escaped getting his head cut off during the French Revolution only to be imprisoned for years by Napoleon. He continued to write however and when his jailers took away his paper, ink and pens he secretly wrote in his own blood with a sharpened fingernail on his clothes. His work was shocking by the standards of the day and only since the Surrealists made a hero out of him in the 1930s have his books slowly seen the light of day again.

Now getting back to Baroque harpsichord music. With the following three pieces we are in the presence of a truly great master, Francois Couperin (1668 - 1733) He was probably the greatest keyboard virtuoso in France and indeed in Europe before Bach. He worked at Versailles in the orchestra of Louis XIV - quite a job! It's very difficult to pick just a few of his works but the following are some of my favourites.
