The Downer Thread.

We have the rant thread.

Talking about your grandmother dying, your mother's descent into addiction, or mentioning a suicide aren't really rants.

Just downers.

It's really sad when a patient will come to hospital for help, but will refuse a simple blood draw that just might save their life because "it hurts".

Oh yeah?! Well I think it's sad that they wouldn't offer anesthesia! Fucking murderers!

What I find even more sad is people who go to the hospital and can't get help at all because they don't have health insurance ...

Getting a nerve block to stop the pain of a venipuncture would hurt even more than the actual venipuncture itself.

And yes, it is sad that unless you're bleeding to death/dying, you can't get treated without health insurance. The hospital I work for, however, will provide free medical service and care for the uninsured. One of the few in this area.

That's what things like Medicaid are for, though. [Granted, not the best way to go, but it does help.]

When i damn near cut my finger off this past Fall the first hospital i went to was geared up and ready to suture my finger back up regardless of insurance or not. And i didn't have insurance.
The doctor was actually stoked to do it, he even used the word "stoked"...and "dude". But as soon as he realized that i had severed a tendon along with alot of nerve damage and possibly a small artery he had to send me to LSU Health Science Center.

i didn't think it was that serious until i had to wait almost two weeks for the specialist at LSU-HSC to come back from a conference in order to over see the procedure.

What i'm getting at is...not ALL hospitals in the US will turn you away if you have don't have insurance. i asked around before and no one i know has ever been denied care. They got a big ass bill to pay later. But they never were denied. i think it only depends on the assholes in the triage.

So it's probably safe to cross the border, Saya. Just...do be careful.

They offer a special insurance in Canada you can sign up for that will insure you during your visit to the USA.

My rat Jack just died

I do feel glad that he's out of his misery now, though. Ever since his cagemate Shiro died he's been miserable, he wouldn't let me touch him at all, wouldn't come out of his cage, even clawed up his face pretty bad a few times I was expecting it honestly, the last two days he hardly ate a thing and slept most of the time.

Awww shit that sucks. Indeed he's out of his misery, but I'm sorry you had to watch on the sidelines and have to expect it.

How old was he?

If you're dying or in need of serious help (severing an artery is very serious), then yes, all hospitals will treat you. If you go to the ER for a cold and you don't have insurance, you will be turned away.

Well you can if you want to get in immediately instead of making an appointment and waiting, but an ER visit can cost well over a thousand dollars.

I fucking hate it when girls you care about get treated like shit by their boyfriends and act like they've done something wrong, and refuse to leave the douchebags treating them badly.

My girlfriend's friend is just like this. She goes from one abusive relationship to another. It's getting to be a pain in my ass as well, I'm getting bored of putting her boyfriends in the hospital...
