Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Suggestions please?

Here is my dilemma; I am extra picky about the music that I like. As far as goth music goes I adore Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus, I also like The Cult a bit and Sisters of Mercy. That's about where it ends...I don't like Sexgang Children, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Christian Death, and there are some other bands to add to that list that I can't remember at the moment. I'm just really set on finding bands that sound more like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus...but thus far it seems like in my own opinion no one really comes close. Band suggestions would be much appreciated.

Not goth, but really good, and same lyrical themes.

How about Danielle Dax or All About Eve? Both under appreciated IMO.

Great suggestions PortraitOfSanity, although I didn't care too much for My Dying Bride. I especially enjoyed Paradise Lost (good book and good band lol). Haven't looked into Danielle Dax or All About Eve yet Man In Room 5, but I'll let you know what I think when I get around to listening to them.

The Best Of CD from Clan of Xymox is a good collection by them. I would avoid their more recent material though...

I like Danielle Dax, a very interesting sound. All About Eve was alright. Thank you Man In Room 5. I especially enjoyed Clan of Xymox I think they're most what I've been looking for (I have however only listened to the one song suggested by Flowergirl, need to listen to some more to be sure I like them), thank you FlowerGirl and PixelAvenger.

I've really enjoyed checking out all of these band suggestions, a big thanks to everyone that has named a band for me. You're welcome to keep them coming lol.

Do you speak German? How about Xmal Deutschland? They're often compared to Siouxsie but they sing mostly in German. They're the only non-English speaking band I listen to....but I'm a sucker for any goth band fronted by a female vocalist.

Why? All those bands, with the exception of Depeche Mode, suck.

It is hopeless to argue opinion. It is what it is, I like what I like.

No, I do not speak German Man In Room 5, however I don't mind listening to bands that don't sing in English. I'll be sure to look into Xmal Deutschland.

I like goth music somewhat, but I find it very boring and monotonous after a while. Try listening to bands like metric, grizzly bear, arcade fire, and portugal. the man...it's fresh and different from what you probably listen to.

I think just about any kind of music can get boring and monotonous when listened to all of the time (hence why I listen to many different genres of music). I'll check out the bands you've suggested and see what I think. All of this new music to check out, I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. I still haven't checked out Xmal Deutschland...

Huh? I actually like many live versions of their songs better than the studio versions. Bauhaus is amazing live.

I've seen them in person, plus I have several concerts from them in my music collection.

I've very new to the forum, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Mission (UK)!! Even though they are "that other band" associated with the Sisters of Mercy, I find their stuff to have more longevity with me personally, and they are very similar to all the bands mentioned. Here are a few clips of my personal favorite songs:

Deliverance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uvna9...eature=related

Blood Brother:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_S-3...eature=related
(This isn't the original video, but just listen to the song! !)

Dance On Glass:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dikSeQmKs8
(If you've heard "Black Planet" by the Sisters, you'll recognize this one)

Butterfly on a Wheel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udGzWTWC0Nk

That's a good intro to them. I recommend you buy "God's Own Medicine," It's amazing!

Hm...why did no one suggest London After Midnight? I just found them...and they're pretty awesome in my own opinion.
