Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Real Punk
I am trying to create the ultimate '80's punk play list. You know back when punk was punk.
Does anybody know any bands?

Hmm....Sorry Tenet but I have to disagree with you on the 80s, being the time when punk was punk. It was started sometime during the seventies but it died within a few months.
But I recommend Cheap Sex.

What about Anti-Flag, Black Flag, F.E.A.R., GG Allin, Propagandhi and so on?
They are true punks.

The Dead Milkmen! NOFX - didn't get big until 90's but started in the 80's. Yup, AntiFlag is Badass. I don't think it's very 80's but what about PennyWise?

TSOL...True Sounds Of Liberty Early L.A. punk band that also put out some really good deathrock. I highly recommend Beneath The Shadows or Dance With Me. Their music before that was was more punk and they actually lost some fans back in the day when their musical direction changed. They reunited about 5 or 6 years ago and have put out two new albums. Their new music is more pop punk...still listenable but not as good as their 80's material. I saw them live a few years back and they put on a really good show.

Blushing, I recently got into Fugazi. Thanks to Loy and SecretBoy.
I consider them to be more alternative punk.
"The waiting room" is one of my favourite songs.

The mister reccomended them(Fugazi). I never was really into punk but recently I've gotten into the anti-authoritarian type of punk. I'm not too keen on the goofy punk, but I do like NOFX. Have you ever heard of Authority 0? They have an alternative lean to them but they're a bit political. Oh yeah - also Agnostic Front is good and Against All Authority.

I haven't heard of Authority O, are they just as good as Fugazi?
I only listen to punk once in a while.
I despise modern pop punk such as Green Day and Good Charlotte.

No - the mister reccomended Fugazi, I myself cannot claim to be into them. Just reccomended
Authority 0 (zero) has got kind of a SoCal vibe.
Yeah, I'm new to Punk. I used to like only music that appealed to me emotionally. When I started to be *forced* to listen to it recently, I realized that a lot of punk is great. It's a bunch of guys (or girls) saying what they think and if you don't like it, you can go screw yourself. Bands like Anti-Flag do a lot of good in my opinion, because they are activists for what they believe in and support causes that they feel deserve it. You can't say that about a lot of bands these days, or even people.
Agreed. I do not like bands that take the traditional punk sound and turn it into music tailored to the popteen culture. It's perfectly legal, they can do it if they want to, but I think it's bull.
Besides. If Good Charlotte turned up at a real show...there wouldn't be a Good Charlotte anymore.

Everyone has pretty much said all the punk bands I like. I whent to my first punk show last Friday! I felt kind of dumb because I kept appologizing to the people into whom I bumped when I was getting away from the mosh *sweatdrop* It was a really good local band. Great energy, Rancid-like lyrics... pretty cool stuff. Good luck with the playlist Tenet!
