"Bum Capes"
Me and some friends have being trying to locate someone or someplace that sells or create what we affectionately know as; "bum capes", quite simply it is much like a cape for one's bum, imagine a skirt that keeps the back and sides but sans the front part...
I have reference here... unfortunately it is a video game character but I have been assured that the items in question do actually exist in real life.

While we have toyed with the possibility of making it ourselves, we'd rather rely on the industry this time.
However, if make it we must, then could anyone offer us any tips?

Surely all you'd need is a length of fabric cut to the right shape and then hem it at the top and bottom ? You could tie it at the front with something..ribbon or leather or something. Or attach the fabric to a belt.
Do I even want to know the reason you want a bum cape?

Because they're fun, flowy and the utlimate way to finish off a tights, tight shorts combo.
The problem with me doing it myself... well you've never seen me with a needle or any other kind of item used in clothes making...
But maybe I will try doing it myself...

Weren't street punks doing the whole ass flap thing for like eons? If so, just follow that example with a big patch or something.

Yeah, you do see a lot of bondage pants with flaps on the back.

Just get a big bit of fabric, you could attach it to belt. Or put like belt hoops on it so you can thread a belt through when you wear it. Or put hooks on the cape thingy and attach some d rings to a belt or to the shorts or whatever. Hope that made sense.

after laughing obsenely at the thread title for five minuits ive decided to give my two cents.
just get an ordinaly circle cape and hem it to the length you want,it might be a good idea to add a 2 inch hem of tougher fabric at the bottom though seeing as it is going to drag along the ground allot.all that remains for me to say is; send in pictures im shure you'll all look awsome.

Indeed. A LOT of people seem to achieve the creation of a "bum cape" without even noticing it!

A fishnet shirt paired with my homemade leather bondage pants and trench-coat at my waist is one of my favorite outfits. The silhouette is very...Sephiroth. xD

Yeah... bum flaps... they're just back patches pinned to yer trousers. They also, unknown to the wearer, look incredibly stupid.

You mean bum flaps?
Yeah, crust punks have done that forever.
I'm not saying it to make you feel like it's unoriginal for you to do it, just that it's been done so you might find a lot of sources online, just look for bum flaps rather than bum capes.
Some time ago I wanted to make some, as the point of them is to express your political stances, but they're just very impractical and awkward.
EDIT: I read that someone already mentioned the bum flaps.

Hmmm.... maybe you could get a long wrap skirt, dye it or whatever, and alter it a little to make it more cape-like. You would probably have to cut some of the width off in order to leave it open in front, instead of wrapping all the way around your body.

Bum flaps always made me want to beat my fellow punks unmercifully.
With a shovel.
So basically what Joker said.

Pattern for warp skirt:
Go to fitzpattern's website (i was going to post the link to the pattern, but g-net won't let me) click on the free tab and you'll find the warp skirt pattern.
Cutting the pattern/fabric:
Ignore the pocket and DO NOT cut the back piece sepearate!!! Instead, join it together with the front piece when you are assembling the pattern. Shorten the waist band as needed.

The picture of the "bum cape" seems to be more like an open fronted skirt than a bum flap, I would think that the easiest way to make one would be from the pattern of a wrap skirt and just don't use enough fabric for the two sides to overlap.

XD
I've seen them on loli j-rock pants before.
Girldorock [or Wai1222] on ebay sells some pants that come with a bum cape, not all the time though.
I really love the gothic japanese style.
