1920's

I've decided that my all white is boring and all black is giving me headache.
So I've figured I should go for 1920's inspired look and add some colors.
I was wondering if anyone had any idea where I could find some dresses that aren't too old looking?
It would be much appreciated.

Twenty dollars to forty would be ideal, but if you have to stray into the sixties and such, it's fine. I don't need something extravagant. =]
Just something that will get the look across.
Plus, there's plenty of vintage jewelry stores in this small town that have good prices. I can find something there to spice it up more.

I've seen some nice ones on ebay for around $30 so you may want to look there

Do you sew? If so, that might be the very best option. Some inspiration for you:

Oh yes, but not well. I can only make garments below the waist line, as in skirts. Those are helpful anyway. Thanks. =]
I did some searching, but the third link is better than any one I've found.
My aunt sews though.
I'm thinking about asking her.

Good idea. =) The "One- Hour Dress" is very typical of the fashion silhuette of the time, if you want to go in for some authenticity, and it is easy to make. Might be worth looking into.

I've discovered a few websites that tell about making them =D
But I also found in the process of googling a dress that I think might work:
http://www.gojane.com/29436.html

I'm thinking it works maybe?
I can go to the fabric store in the nearest city and add some fringe to the top? Or I can even add some beading near the waist?

Looks good. Just be certain to make it with a good quality, non- elastic fabric like silk or muslin. At least in my opinion, making such a dress with super- elastic plastic fabrics makes it look cheap. And such a fabric will be sure to highlight any areas you might not want to be very visible. I donīt know whether itīs one of my quirks or not, but sitting down in a "one-size-fits-all" type skinhugging dress makes me extremely conscious of any natural bulges that might occur; not very pretty.

It's a cute dress, but it's got nothing to do with the style of the twenties.

I thought about satin actually, then I had a friend in fashion school tell me that it's hard to work with and can look cheap and and she suggested silk as well.
Oh yes, the evil bulges, I'll be sure to watch out for those.
Also, I checked out Ebay. There's a nice selection, but they're either too big or too small. As soon as I find one I like, especially a cream one, it will say something along the measurements of a size 9 or a size 1.

I tried.
I've been looking at pictures all day.
Or at least for a rather long time.

ah yeah the sizing can be a bit of a bitch, I wish I had a better link for you but the only places that I know have awesome 20's style dresses are kind of pricey
