Indeed it was. A the Swedes are cool people, most of them anyways, I have a weird vision of 6000 Signes running around.

Gonna explain my contradiction...
1. Apologizing would be being sorry for something...wanting forgiveness.
2. Sorry can be used to convey both a feeling of a craving for forgiveness, one of pity, etc. As in, "I'm sorry your cat died" doesn't mean I killed your cat.
I'm gonna enjoy the boards.
Not gonna start stuff...
Gonna have more sarcasm/not to be taken seriously warning.

Well, since the topic has been brought up...what authors -do- you enjoy, 300?
As much as it may pain some folks, two of my favs right now are Anne Rice and Stephen King. [I'm trying to get through The Stand right now so that I can finish the Dark Tower series.]
btw, I wasn't offended in the least by the 'not you!' remark, and I think if folks are, then they must be WAY too sensitive, or having a bad day. ^^;;;

Welcome to the site. Don't worry, plenty of people get given a hard time for not listing the same bands every other goth is into. Don't let it get you down - it's nobody's business but your own and if you're not a moron, I'm sure you'll end up getting along just fine.

Ha, c'mon, prove 'em wrong. Not living and breathing for music ain't a crime - I'd rather talk to someone whose music I don't care for than someone with a hard-on for being a general tool.

As I understand it, it's not so much that he wouldn't be allowed to hang out here as much as it is that if he doesn't appreciate the Goth style of music, then he isn't really a 'Goth' per se. :/
He can still hang out here, sure [and I hope he does. ], but since the whole definition of a Goth is tied up into the kind of music a person likes...well, there ya go.
It would be like someone claiming to be a Masonite if all they ever listen to is Loreena Mckennitt and Enya; if someone isn't a fan of him/them and his/their music, then they aren't a Masonite.
[There are other examples I could use, but I'll just stop there..]
Whether or not this person is comfortable with being themselves without the label of 'Goth' is a whole different story.....

I get that. I just hate it when someone new posts an intro and everyone starts going "oh my god, I hate your music tastes." Which means they're judging them - if they weren't, they'd just say welcome.

Well, as much as we'd all love to be full of acceptance and tolerance, you do have to judge people, every day, or we'd be unable to make any distinctions. This is a "goth" forum, and while we can certainly accept non-goths, we can't accept them AS goths.
Now, the real question is, what are the criteria for judging someone as "goth"? Because that's a very, very difficult definition to make.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against judging people. I just think that the substance of what they say is better criteria than whether or not I like the same bands as them. This IS a goth forum, true, but the music forum is outnumbered by the others. I hardly ever hang out there, because I dislike most goth music. Having a brain seems more important than using the right buzz words when answering the music question.

Hmm...what is goth..
Isn't that the eternal question of our subculture? ^^;;; I generally go by the Wiki definition, and by whatever it says in Voltaire's book What Is Goth?.
In general, it seems to be someone who is a fan of 80s darkwave, industrial, and/or underground 'dark' bands that aren't distinctly metal.
It also seems to be someone who, much like folks who go to see the visual kei folks in Japan, tend to enjoy dressing like their idols.
It's someone who appreciates the darker side of life, has a generally misanthropic [yet non-violent] view of things, and in general can at least appreciate the ideas behind the early 80s post-punk bands, even if they don't like the music.
[This is the general definition I've gleaned from various sources on the 'Net, and that book of Voltaire's..

Sounds like an interesting book. (Voltaire's)
Then again I mostly read at school. Bringing a book with What Is Goth on the title wouldn't fly well with my friends, considering I'm known to loathe being called Goth.
Back on topic: Welcome to Gnet!

Madeline L'Engle is the author of A Wrinkle in Time, correct? That book kicked arse, I read it and then sat down to have a nice cup of tea while pondering it's many lessons and the points it made. I was a fan of the Happy Medium, and I think that the play on words, "The happiest sadist," is eternally humorous.
Anyways, welcome to our lovely site. You may want to expand your musical vocabulary before angry, and quite scary, people show up on your door step with pitchforks and torches, chasing you as though you were the Frankenstein Monster. That's just a suggestion.
