Well, we tried explaining it to him/her. Nothing more can really be said. They can either accept the facts that Goth is about being a FAN of Goth Rock/Deathrock or they can just be wrong. Either way, I tried to help and I'm still loving Frank The Baptist.

Duh, We all know these bands aren't Gothic rock, but I wanted to see what you guys thought about them.
And I add Lacuna Coil to the list.

I have no opinion on them, really. I don't listen to them. I MIGHT listen to KoRn sometime again in the future, but not now.

I would add Apocalyptica to the list, and The 69 Eyes.

[quote=JCC]Goth is a very rigid subculture stuck in permanent 1980s.[quote]
That's the definition I'm going to give people from now on.
NIN... god... I loved the Downward Spiral, but I try to avoid mentioning them to avoid controversy. Is there anything we can agree on about that band?

I'm pretty sure the 69 Eyes are Goth. Even by standards of structure.

My Chemical Romance have gothic elements but I know people here don't like them.
Green Day look a bit gothic but the music is not really.

Apocalyptica are metal, they did make themselves famous for covering so much Metallica after all.
Sure are awesome though ^_^

MCR's more of an emo band with excess pop elements. Green Day's look is really more oldschool-emo, I think. Though I'm just guessing, there.

Hahaha I know what you mean and I mostly agree, but they sing alot about pain, like alot of proper gothic music.
Maybe I was wrong about Green Day but the singer does wear alot of black eyeliner.

He wears eyeliner, so he must be goth.
Add Christian Death to that list.

Your kidding right? MCR has no "gothic elements" as you put it, It's completly emo.
Green day seems like pop-punk to me, Or "old school emo" as Albert said.

Yes they do, they sing about darkness and emtions which is what gothics are concerned with.
I agree about Green Day.

Yes, but generally "gothic elements" means its music has elements inspired by gothic rock, Emo music is derived straight from post-punk.

Well yes, I just meant that their music is dark and emotional, I mean this is a thread for bands with gothic elements right?

Erm... not to be too quibbly, here, but I meant more that the look of Green Day's 'old school emo' than the sound. The sound just appeals to emos, I think.

Are you aware that goth rock is derived from post-punk as well?
Also, out of curiosity, do ANY of you have any idea what Emo is?

A genre of depressing hardcore punk that originated in the early '80s and spawned a subculture eventually.

Nicely done. But are we to believe that the Emotive Hardcore movement in the mid 80s is to blame for the Hipster movement of today?
They don't strike me as at all related. Most of the "emo" bands of today are simply bad pop rock with depressing lyrics.

Some emos listen to actual Emocore. In fact, I think the whole "fringe" craze came from an actual emo band (or two).

If you're talking about the real Christian Death with Rozz there's not dispute.
