NAZI BLOOPERS... serious

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...25189585700533

Der Sieg des Glaubens (Victory of Faith) is the first documentary film directed by Leni Riefenstahl, who was hired despite opposition from Nazi officials that resented employing a woman — and a non-Party member too. Her film recounts the Fifth Party Rally of the Nazi Party, which occurred in Nuremberg from August 30 to September 3 in 1933.

What's interesting about this film is that it contains something that everyone has always wanted to see... BLOOPERS FROM THE THIRD REICH.

This was Leni Reifenstahl's first film for the Nazis, and as such was her "experimental" phrase in Nazi film making. As a result there are numerous blunders caught on film - such as awkward moments with Hitler walking through a crowd and people not knowing where they're supposed to be... including awkward clips of Hitler looking very un-fuhrer like twiddling his fingers during another nazi leader's speech.

In short - if you've ever wanted to see Bloopers from the Thrid Reich, then this film is for you.

(Historic notes: Ernst Rhom who would in 12 months time be purged in the night of the long knives is given equal status to Hitler in this film - for example, when Hitler is in his mercades giving the Nazi salute Ernst Rhom is beside him as an equal partner in the Nazi party rather than a subordinate).

Interesting stuff. At the moment I haven't got an hour to watch the entire thing, but I'll be sure to pick it up later.

I think, for a film of this nature, being made so early on in the Nazi rise to power, a few blunders are inevitable. If I remember correctly, the Nazis came to real power in '33 with the passing of the Enabling act, so that would mean that this film was made during their ascension. The Nazis at this point has probably had not decided entirely on what their image should be. Combine that with the filmmakers inexperience with this type of propagandistic cinema, and you're bound to have what would've been considered by the Nazis to be aesthetic mistakes.

Definitely something that I'll be going back to to watch in its entirety.
