Kripke is right to worry about fan obsession. There are so many ways for this to go wrong, and so few ways for it to turn out right. And if it had been on HBO, at least they'd have had a budget.

Yeah, this doesn't bode well.

*goes back to his leather-bound deluxe Sandman collectors editions ... hmm ... that's better*

Tonight on Sandman, Morpheus saves the prom, right after a very special episode of "Glamor Girls" only on the WB.

Personally I can't wait to see how the people that created THIS
will handle the clothing in Sandman. I'm guessing Lucifer will have a full body muscle suit that would appear to be naked.

Neil Gaiman is going to be on Arthur! And I bet its going to be better than Sandman.

Is it really so hard to just accept that something works in the medium it's in and then continue to let it work in that medium? Must we adapt everything?

Oh, wait. Money can be made from adaptations. Of course we must.

Hey, I used to watch Arthur! If I recall correctly, it's a pretty decent kids' show.

MUCH BETTER NEWS, FOLKS!

Sandman series is alive:

OK, this is slightly unexpected - soon after Supernatural creator Eric Kripke says a series would not be happening this year, DC Comics's Chief Creative Officer and de facto head writer Geoff Johns tweeted that a series is going ahead, and that he is working with series creator Neil Gaiman to bring it to life. Here's what Johns tweeted:

"Correction to world. The Sandman is AWAKE! Psyched to be working with [Neil] on developing one of the greatest series ever! Sandman in any form - comics to live action - doesn't work without [Neil]."

(SOURCE)

Sooooooo ... that sounds much more promising.

Well, at least Gaiman is involved now.

I still think that this is a horrible idea though. Sandman's content simply can't be shown on American network television. The censors will have a field-day with Gaiman's storylines.

Still, if it HAS to happen, I suppose this is better than Kripke doing it on his own.

Kripke's out. From what I've seen of Supernatural, I can't honestly say I'm sorry.

The way HBO is doing George R. R. Martin's "Swords" books leads me to believe "Sandman" could be done smartly on TV, but I'm not certain it's going to get that kind of treatment. Still, this is am improvement in direction.

If HBO were doing Sandman, or American Gods, I would be PSYCHED.

But seriously, the CW? People who watch the CW aren't interested in Sandman, they're interested in twilight ripoffs and teen-dramas. The closest they've gotten is Supernatural, and once again, the network's fan base really held that show back from what it could've been.

It would be amazing if HBO could do it. I hate to imagine something like this being stifled. I think Witch Blade did alright on TNT, but I'm still skeptical.

Also. I think I need to change my avatar.

Nothing I'm reading says it's attached to the CW any more. That was only due to Kripke's involvement.

I misread the title as 'The Ben Lahnger Show'... the true topic was far less exciting.

You know I actually forgot how horrific the comic was? I had to flip through it the other day. I've repressed my memory of it. Sooooo yeah, not sure how that's going to translate to TV.

In all of it's morbid glory, hopefully.

I'm just sayin' are they REALLY going to keep in the scene where the lesbian blinds herself in the diner and then has group sex to the Adam's family?

Or the bit with the chopped-off talking face Thessaly tacks up on the wall?

Or the part where the cross-dresser is treated as a human instead of comic relief?

NONE OF THESE THINGS CAN BE SEEN ON NETWORK TELEVISION! THEY ARE TOO HORRIFYING FOR THE AMERICAN PUBLIC!

Zack Snyder couldn't even keep the moral ambiguity in Watchmen, and that was a MOVIE. If the WB is going to cut Silk Spectre's SMOKING because she's a "role model", and straight up TELL you that Rorschach is right and Ozymandias was wrong, what are they going to do when Morpheus gives Doctor Destiny and all the inmates in Arkham a good night's sleep?

Nothing good can come of this.

Why is it horrifying for a crossdresser to be treated human? I understand that much of the public would squirm at the idea, but I am hoping that they keep it.

The other topics you listed, yeah, probably not fit for many broadcasters. There is still the few that push the limit though. Hope remains.

While you are right, one would assume it is, since CW and DC/Vertigo are both owned by Warner, and CW needs it's new superhero teenage drama. And Jhones, his heart is in the right place but so oftenly he takes terrible decisions.
I'm actually interested in the possibility of , instead of an adaptation, Gaiman just goes all out and writes new stories.
