Facebook

The old Facebook group disappeared and the one that was there when you did a search was for some unrelated group in Indonesia, so I created a new one.

You can find it here:

http://www.facebook.com/groups/313715488675191/

It's an open group and so it doesn't look like I am in charge and keep things fair I gave Ben Langer, Still Jack, JCC, and Despanan all administrator accounts so we are more of a collective than a dictatorship.

Any member can add new members and all posts are public.

Apart from Despanan, I don't think any of those guys are even here anymore.

So I've been considering joining Facebook. Is it any different to MySpace? Hectory "get your ass online" friends seem to think so, but no one can actually tell me HOW.

My advice is give it a go and if you don't like it you can delete your account. I could spend all day telling you why I enjoy it, but you might like or dislike it for a cadre of different reasons.

I like the ability to share things with mates and see what they in turn have to share with me. Helps me keep up with the people I have met travelling the globe.

I'm not sure exactly how it's different apart from the fact that you won't be subject to anyone's neon and glitter profile background. Plus it's different to myspace because I'M on it and I know you want to stalk my pictures.

See, I like the idea, but after checking out other people's I'm not sure I could handle seeing that many brainfarts without starting to hate people a little. I figured maybe I'd join and just not add anyone I didn't know to be good at the internets, but apparently it doesn't work like that - people DEMAND to be added and get pissy if you don't accept their friend requests. That was mostly why I couldn't be bothered to join before.

I just ignore the friend requests I don't want to accept. I only add people I'm interested in talking to, everyone else gets the inbox rot. If anyone starts bothering me with their brainfarts, I just hide them on my newsfeed or delete them. Simple as bro.

Yeah, but I'm talking more about people like family members and co-workers. Friends can go take a running jump - bitches can either learn to be awesome at being online or GTFO. Anyway, only about half of my buddies are on there, so it doesn't dominate our socializing the way it does with groups who all have accounts and use it to arrange pretty much everything they do together.

All reasons I never joined before. But meh. Maybe. I do like the idea of photostalking all the people I have crushes on. I could do shit like captionize the porn thread with all your most innocent poses. That'd rule.

If you don't want to see the news feed of someone, you can control that. You can also control who sees your posts.

Anyway, the old group works fine for me.

A search tells me Sternn isn't looking at the same group everyone else uses.

Yo Sternn did you remember that you have to spell out "dot"? That could be the problem.

Why would I spell out dot? Why would anyone spell out dot? Who spells out dot?

I don't type in gothicdotnet to get to this website sure.

Because there was already a Gothic.net group on Facebook and that was how the creator of the group decided to differentiate our group from the other one.

Unsubscribing to friends' posts and "unfollowing" things I've posted have made my facebook experience far more enjoyable.

Facebook is vastly overrated. I don't get the people who just HAVE to check it as soon as they open their eyes. I only really use it to keep up to date with the people I don't get to see very often for various reasons. I can't be doing with using it to plan out the whole of my social life though it is handy for keeping track of what is going on locally in the pubs I like going to when I can't get out and about much.

AP, I have two Facebook accounts, the one I use my real name in for select friends and family (which is quite handy for staying in touch, actually) and the one I have with the handle I use here, which is more fun. I guess that makes me Two-Facebooked!

You could have an Apathy's Child account (or some other anonymous handle) where you pick and choose who has access. I don't imagine it would be significantly more or less annoying that anything you see here, but there are more options for interaction.

And yes, I'm still around ... just less active due to job demands.

It's interesting, that's for sure. You never know what kind of silly or heated debate will spring up randomly on FB. Loads of fun, some days.
