Having Fun With Military Surplus

I like the military. From Crye Multicam to Ballistic Armor, I've always liked military designs on things.

The thing is, they don't make for much in the terms of wearing them around. I can't really just pop on a set of BDU's and walk around the mall. (Just doesn't feel right.)

So I'm trying to think of ways to incorporate anything from ballistic armor to camouflage into how I dress on a regular basis. Any ideas you have would be awesome. I'll post what I think of.

I wear BDU pants every day.

It's nice.

Online.
Places like OPSGEAR will only sell them to military, but there are a few companies that will sell them to civillians like BulletProofMe.

It's completely legal to buy body armor. Military surplus stores sometimes have flack jackets. I've even heard, but not seen, Level IIIA being sold.

The only reason you would need level IIIa armor is if someone really hates you.

Actually, Level IIIA isn't as effective as you'd think. It barely protects against handgun shock (You'll still feel the effect after being shot), it doesn't cover rifles, and shotguns do majour damage as well.

If you want to incorporate that into what you wear on a daily basis you might try these brilliant items...

Bladerunner Hoodies

http://www.bladerunner.tv/product/de...?id=Bladerunne

Stab-proof Kevlar hoodies. All black, impervious to blades and stabbing devices. I have a few I wear.

Hood Lamb Hoodies

http://hoodlamb.com/wstore/product_i...products_id=37

Bulletproof hoodies. Sold in a variety of colours.

What I really want is to buy is a roll of Thor Shield (http://www.thorshield.com/) and sew it into my hoodies to make them impervious to electric shock as well.

Put that together with my shirt with a built-int concealed balaclava and I'm halfway to my own batsuit!

Clomping around in a pair of Combat Trousers is fine isn't it?
Or is that a bit too obvious?

Or am I totally missing the point of this post? >_>"

Great coats are rather kewl, Captain Jack of Doctor Who (we do not talk of Tourchwood!) fame looks very swish in his 1940's RAF gear.

Dress Tunics (if that's what they are called <_< the ones you wear for special occasions) look a bit naff if they are just worn on there own I think.
I have yet to see someone who can pull of a dress tunic worn casually. It just looks stupid! I've been there! You just look like a pratt!

But yes, greatcoats are wonderful, they are very big and warm and look very swish. It would be wonderful as an overcoat for day to day wear. My one is from the Polish Navy (apparently) and it's kept me warm over many a long cold winter's night.

Yeh nothing wrong with wearing boots and combat trousers. BDU is just the cut of the uniform, you can get them in plain colours like black rather than in camo patterns if you want something more discreet.

Or theres clothing some soldiers or contractors use like the 5.11 tactical series as seen here.

Ooor something like the spears fleece, can't remember who uses them but its military. Probably US SF. I don't know where you can get real ones but I've seen replicas, like here

Is that more what you're looking for? Because you could wear a normal set of camo BDUs out and about.

The US Air Force rain jacket is cool. Just dye it black and it'd be pretty rockin'.

I wear BDUs often, but I can't seem to go walking around in digital or multicam without getting a few looks.

I really like the look of this. It's multicam, which I like, and I like having that many pockets. For some reason, pockets and me make for a very good thing.

And this is also really nice. I'd be quite useful when hiking.

If the cammies are a bit too "hunterish redneck" looking, just mod them out a bit. Hit up a fabric store and slap some strips of black PVC on em or something.

Grey Vinyl would look awesome on urban camo. Imagine if you had the patience to cover all the gray spots on the camo with gray vinyl and accentuated with metal eyelets? That shit would fucking rock.

I bought an olive-drab tactical shirt today. It has the German flag on both sleeves

Then don't wear camo patterns
Plain Top
Plain Trousers
Even shorts

I've seen plain BDUs sold at some fashion places but they charge loads more than buying them from military suppliers.

I like Kontans idea though.

Yeah. Kontan's idea is kickass. Seriously, that is kickass.

That shirt looks nice, especially in black. I'm looking around the site, I wonder if they have the ACU style in black.

I think ACU is the camo scheme. But its also a different cut than BDUs are. As far as I know the main differences are things like the pockets being in better positions for use with armour and a mandarin collar.
Anyway if it is infact a colour scheme then I don't know if they sell it in other colours. You can get RAID BDUs which can have the pockets and collar like on ACU uniforms.
RAID some custom stuff, but you pay for the work.

Some soldiers did the changes themselves and its not too difficult to do. I did the pocket change for use with airsoft.

CptSternn, you do realize, of course, that you remixed an Apoptygma Berzerk song.

You have no room to be talking.
