If they've been planning this since 2002, i imagine its unlikely anything will come to fruition. Plus if it was rubbish it would really ruin the whole thing. Like if this planned Simpsons film goes ahead.

I think if they tried to do it now, it wouldn't work. Like when they tried to do another series not long back with Pete the budgie who turned into a t-rex. That was a pile of shite and i was so disappointed. Plus Craig Charles is now a regular character in Coronation Street so its very possible he might not want to do it, and there's no-one else who could play Lister as well as he could.

I agree, it looks very unlikely to be released for the moment, as the release date keeps being pushed back, and there has not been any info on it in any of the film mags recently (and they would be the first to know). I think the film has been shelved for the time being.

Having seen what the film industry did to `The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy` (the original TV series is far superior) the other year, I would be rather concerned if the film was released, Red Dwarf works perfectly as a series and would be difficult to translate in to a feature film, that would live up to our expections.

If it is in the works lets hope (as I said before) that they work really hard on the script (as the excellent writing of te show has been the heart and soul of Red Dwarf throughout the years), so it kicks ass and doesnt smeg up.

Thanks again Beowulf for digging up that info

I haven't seen 'The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy' yet - is it really that bad?

It ok.
If you never red the book… Or listened to the radio play… or seen the TV show….

Scarily, Smeg is also a brand of fridge, isn't it?

My favourite is Back to Reality. Off the top of my head. But there are so many classics. Season 6 I think has all the silliest/most memorable episodes

Hi,

The film version is nowhere near as good as the Original TV series or the Radio adaption (both by the BBC). Deviant Kitten, I would reccomend watching the original TV series or reading the books before seeing the film .

BBC Website for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Umm... *whispered confession* I actually haven't read the book yet! I don't know why not though; I love Terry Pratchett's Discworld books and other Pratchett fans keep recommending HHG to me. Apparently it was written with a similar dry wit. I'll have to visit the library sometime soon!

I have to admit I have a childish urge to giggle when I see those expensive fridges with "smeg" plastered across them in big letters...

Keeps your food smeggin' fresh though!

Deviant Kitten, you will love Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, see if you can get it on video or DVD somewhere, because like Red Dwarf, it rules !!!.

As for the fridges, if somebody owned one, would they say " I`m going out, dinner`s in the smeg" .

I'm gonna read the book first, I think. Then I'll definitely seek out the film!

"Where's dinner?"

"Smeg!"

"...I beg your pardon?!"

I want a customised SMEG fridge with a pic of Lister on it!

I probably can't afford one so I'll get a marker pen and write SMEG across my cute l'il silver mini fridge, and glue a RD piccy to it.
Et voila! DIY rawks

Not a huge dward fan, but I do like some of the better moments. The one with the Confusion Squid (I think it was that) where they were just playing a game and with Dwayne Dibbly was awesome.

My favourite has to be Quarantine though... Insane Rimmer with pigtails and the sock puppet.
Quote:
RIMMER: I can't let you out.
LISTER: Why not?
RIMMER: Because the King of the Potato People won't let me. I begged him. I got down on my knees and wept. He wants to keep you here. Keep you here for ten years.
CAT: Could we see him?
RIMMER: See who?
CAT: The King.
RIMMER: Do you have a magic carpet?
LISTER: Yeah, a little three-seater.
RIMMER: So, let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you are completely sane?

Smile Red Dwarf signing at HMV

17 Mar 2006
Red Dwarf cast gather for the release of Series VIII.

Not since the Series II release have we had a full-on public launch event for a DVD, so it's great to discover that 2 entertain have organised a gathering for Series VIII's release on March 27th!

Already confirmed to appear are Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn and Chloë Annett. (Confirmation is still awaited from Craig Charles, dependent on Corrie commitments.) It's the first day Series VIII will be on the shelves, available in both the regular format or as part of the skutter gift box, and there's also a rather special addition to proceedings...

The place is HMV, 150 Oxford Street, London, the time is 12.30pm 'til 2.00pm. And aside from the chance to get your brand-new DVD signed, you could be in with a chance of winning a genuine Series VIII costume!

The 'Red Dwarf crew member' costume is being given away as part of an in-store competition on the day. Everyone who buys the DVD gets a numbered wristband. This wristband then allows them to join the signing event, and - before the signing takes place - will also act as a raffle ticket for the draw.*

So get in early to pick up your DVD! If you were planning to get away for your lunch break, or just looking for an excuse to skive a day, this is what you've been waiting for! Get your hands on the DVD, get it signed by the cast, then get it home and watch 12 hours of Dwarfy greatness! Possibly while wearing a genuine crew costume...

Unfortunatly I cant afford to go either....Doh!!!

It will probably be the last time as well (unless the film shows the light of day).

Deviant Kitten, did you ever see the `Timeslides` episode (when they go back in time, and see a young Lister singing with his band `Smeg and the Heads`), did you know that the other two members were non other than Bill Steer, and Jeff Walker of the legendary death metal band Carcass ?.

The episode is `Timeslides` and it`s in season 3 .

Classic Dwarf

Rimmer decides to retrieve Lister from his wealthy, sex-filled fate. "It's my duty," he insists. "My duty as a complete and utter bastard!"

Realising he has somehow been brought to life, Rimmer issues his orders: "Kryten! Unpack Rachel and get out the puncture repair kit!"

Play.com can be pretty cheap... And of course, there's always ebay.

Oooh, and if you're going to do an RD marathon, you know what you're going to have to have for sustenance...

Jalfrezi gets my vote. Or a phall.

Your welcome .

I`m looking forwards to season 8 on DVD (and the free Scutter you get with the limited edition version). Remember the box set I was telling you about with the first four seasons (no extras, just the TV shows), I found it on the HMV website (They should have it in the shops as well).
