A Coat for the summer
So the heat is approaching, and since staying inside 24/7 is sadly, not an option, I need something nice to comfort me while I'm outside.
Anyway, I want to get a "lighter" trenchcoat, with a classic touch. A Darker red one with a high collar and that hard-to-find casual-but-still-strict look.
I don't want to look like I'm all dressed up and neither do I want to look shaggy.
So, I'm wondering where I could find such a thing. Do you know any websites or anything that might have what I'm looking for?

Well...
There's Redballs. Last time I checked, they made Vash the Stampede's jacket...
*shrugs* They also made a really nice red smoker's jacket. It's one of my favorites right now.

You know...
When it comes to pounds, you may as well multiply the price by 2 and then add the shipping afterwards. In other words... the price isn't practical.

I do have the pattern to that coat as well. I did make one in purple velour with the hat too. I sold it to a friend 2 months ago. I may make another one, once I find a fabric that will grab me and say "make me into a coat" lol.

I was thinking more in line of.. Gaara/main char from d.Gray-man if you know what I mean. Cool suggestions so far though.
http://www.dracinabox.com/brocfrockcoat.htm gotta say that one looks fabulous.. Not too fond of the cuffs though, I like to be able to move around in my cloths, and keep it rather casual in a sense. It prefer that length, or even shorter (Think Gaara).
Anyway, keep them comming .
P.S: I hate Vash. Such a cry-baby. Sorry if I upset anyone.

I was looking for a giftie for the beau and came across this:
Naruto Coat

Or more like this:
Gaara
I would like to stitch up something like that. We have a short jacket that resembles the top part I could tear apart for making a pattern. Of course the beau would kill me if I did that.

Why don't you just make one yourself?

Ah man!! I wish I could sew. I couldn't sew something up even if my life depended on it.

Well my dear, you are in luck. Perhaps I can suggest you find someone to make it for you, or learn to sew, lol. However, to help you with a little secret to get started I can tell you where to find the pattern. Here is the reference:
Simplicity pattern# 4083
http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?...=39&startrow=1
You can find this in any fabric stores the sells Simplicity patterns, this one was a new arrival from last fall. It is still available.

Ack! What a dork I am. I have that pattern in a list of "need to get", I never noticed you could make the top hat. If I may ask, how sturdy is the hat? I would like to make some up with lace, netting, flowers, feathers and whatnot.
Thanks.

The pattern called for heavyweight interfacing, I wouldn't recommened it because it's still too thin and the hat will crush easlily.
I used Pellon or "Flexi-Firm" which is like a stiff felt. These acts as a interfacing but with more body and stiffness to it. It is a challenge to get the hat working in the sewing machine but it's worth making it.
If you find the pellon a bit too thick or stiff to work with, try using a lighter version of the same thing.
Practice with a "prototype hat" first before you make the real ones.

Sorry to barge in on your thread, but does anyone have lightweight jacket suggestions for the ladies?
I have one lighter-weight sweater coat, but the summers here are far too humid and hot for even that. I really need something more like a windbreaker as far as thickness goes, but I don't particularly want that material. I do have a couple of thin black hoodie-jackets already. I would like something fancier (but very very lightweight) to wear with skirts and dresses in the evenings or when it's windy. Any ideas?
