Exactly! Older people can wear whatever they want. However.

Little kids that don't know what sort of message they're sending probably shouldn't be wearing things like corsets, cinchers, any fetish gear, etc. Some of it can also be bad for development (anything binding worn for extended periods of time).

People might hate me for saying this, but...

If it's sold at Hot Topic (sans the intimate apparel section), it's probably fair game.

Makeup is up to parental discretion. I wouldn't recommend younger kids using it because it's expensive, easy to break, and face it, kids eat stuff they ought not.

I also wouldn't recommend anything spikier than pyramid studs found on a belt, because of the fact it's not safe in a school setting. Same goes for bondage pants. If you can't run around and safely play in it, don't wear it.

I think there should be rules on how dirtbag little kids can look. It disgusts me when I see 12 year olds in minis with pushup bras showing off their nonexistant titties. I hate skanks.

I don't have a problem with the color one chooses to incorporate into one's wardrobe, or what the material is made of, or what color hair they have-I have a problem with kids looking like little prostitutes.

Most goths don't worry about age limits, which is awsum!!!

but then we have these whiny mainstream control freaks who live in lala land and want the world perfect so they come up with 'age limits' to keep the society 'safe' and such. but its really an uber fail.

it just creates more problems because it just creates more rules to break. plus the anti-conformists of the world aren't going to obey this so that creates more problems (for the control freaks). so i honesly dont think there should be an age limit for clothes.

BUT that doesnt mean 10 year olds should be walking around like porn stars, because tahts just wrong. but i think you get my point anyway.

I think everyone, no matter what the age, should be completely covered and keep their privates private.

Who determines what is private? In some places feet and hair are private. You also infringe on the rights of nudists. That is a very close minded view, though it is yours to have.

personally, i think if little kids were going around wearing corsets and reaaally revealing stuff, parents should be able to have a say in that if need be. but thing is, my mom was all the "prep" style, she would try and drag me into hollister and other stores like that, willing to buy me all this stuff, but then I try to get her to take me into a local store kinda like hot topic, just cheaper and more gothic, waay kooler looking stuff, she just tells me she won't buy it for me. parents need to get over the fact that not everbody is going to conform.

Oh get over that "I wont conform" shit. She is most likely put off by the image the store is portraying but you can find some pretty interesting and goth-friendly pieces at most major department stores so give them a try. If money isn't really an issue for her then a line that may work really well for you is called Alice and Olivia, it is essentially a melding of a preppy "uptown" look with a much edgier "downtown" look, they have loads of fantastic stuff and it has a level of class that I think will make your mother would find it fashionable instead of trashy and questionable, but it is rather fashionable so the price is a bit steep for your average person (though you can still look to the pieces for inspiration).

I personally dislike wearing lots of clothing. I would be okay with being a nudist. I don’t dress overly revealing not because I think it makes me a skank but because other people do. I know that if I show more skin I will be leered at and hit on even more. I hate being hit on… I hate feeling like a piece of fucking meat and thus I generally wear acceptable and “respectable” amounts of clothing. I wish our bodies weren’t so overly sexualized. Cuz being naked is great…. It’s the stares that suck. I actually lived on this hippy commune for a while and it was semi nudist. It was acceptable to be naked but not mandatory…. I liked it. In reality none of this shit matters. Not one single bit. I wish people would wake up and realize that all of these expectations and standards are just bullshit. They are prefabricated morals and opinions that have nothing to do with you. You only believe them because you were indoctrinated with them. So if a kid feels more comfortable naked then let them be naked or close to it.
The only real reason to keep clothes on is because 1. you could be criminally charged 2. Other people have been indoctrinated and will punish you socially. 3. They protect you from the elements.
Naked doesn’t = sexual
The fact that this thread and argument even exists makes me kinda sad. Its soooo trivial.
I wish people weren’t taught to be so ashamed of their bodies.
People talk all this shit about girls being skanky and showing their legs, breasts, etc. But if the fucking Taliban showed up and demanded you wear a god damned burka you’d get pissy. It’s all relative.

I have had issues with this in the past...I'm 14, and I did go through a phase recently where I felt inclined to show off my newly acquired more adult body...it seems stupid to me now, but I'm glad I did it because I now know my own limits clothing-wise. Still, the worst I ever wore was fishnets with a mid-thigh pleated skirt, tank top and extra-high converse (although I also had cat-eye makeup and high pigtails). Slutty for me, but not for other girls at my school, even. I think it's all about what you feel comfortable with...if it makes you feel good to wear it, go for it.

I think the toddler pagents, high heels, lol nipple tassle t-shirts shouldn't exist for extremely young people. I don't think there should be a ban on all of these things for older people. Age appropriate clothing yes, 4 foot and under "slutty" clothing, no. There is plenty of time for those other types of clothing a little more later in life. But if you see a prostitute in the distance, and as you get closer they stay the same size until you realize that it's some 12 year old girl, then things have gone too far. (I seen a chick like that in NB) My eX had 3 younger sisters (one 2 years younger, then rest were like 8-11), the little ones dressed like my eX, but if she had been young. the 11 year-old loved wearing Alice-like clothing from the video game American McGee's Alice. She wore age appropriate clothing. It looked fine on her. She certainly didn't look like a floozy, or lady of the night. I can't see why little girls want to rush the growing up process in terms of the clothing they wear. They'll wish they were younger in due time. lol

That's even more disturbing than string bikinis designed for toddlers.

You are aware that there are actual underage prostitutes out there? Sometimes young girls look like "street workers" because they are, unfortunately.

Oh, I know that. It sucks when you get mistaken for one.(A male prostitute, not an under age one.) You get that Spidey Sense tingle letting you know: "Don't go in the yellow VW Bug with the nice, strange man who's offering a ride across town."

I'm not saying this is a perfect test case, but at twelve years old I dressed like a 'freak'. I was perfectly able to express myself, etc, an the only real regulation from my parents was, I guess you coul call it, gentle ridicule (if I could describe my reasoning for what I was wearing articulately, it was allowed). I didn't dress revealingly at all.

My best friend at the time was also into her PuNk RoXXoR!!11! stage, but her parents, despite being about the same social class, if not more well off, and living in the same (admittely, shady) neighborhood, dressed in miniskirts and barely-there-tube tops... and rarely wore panties.

People assumed I was older and asked what my major was starting about that age because I was getting a real grasp on my thirst for knowledge, and I was used to being around older people of good quality and knew how to communicate.

*continued

Nasty (I mean NASTY, we lived next to really methy trailor park) old men started saying she looked like was in college because she was getting a real grasp on her thirst for dick in response to her hours spent in front of porn at 3 in the morning and the attention she never got from her parents.

We're both 19 now, and I don't speak to her because she's a passive-aggressive bitch who used me- EVEN MAKING ME AN ALIBY WHILE I WAS HOSPITALIZED. She is also now, literally, a crack whore.

So, yeah, there's a bigger societal issue. Shit's just not right.

Age limit? If you don't have a good reason for anything you're doing, you probably don't need to be doing it.
