new to goth

Hi!
I'm 46 years old and new to the Goth culture. I've just recently become interested in it. I hope you've got time and space for me here. Although I call the San Francisco area home, I actually spend most of my time in Hawaii because of my job. I hope to hear from somebody soon. Thanks.

Howdy.

I'm fairly new to it myself, having only become interested in it in the last year.

Good to know there are other people who didn't start in highschool.

Here's something I just finished a few days ago. It's a history of goth, covering the bands that birthed it and moving on to those that redefined it. I've still got to write part three, but here it is:

Thats a great list, good work! I only started listening to UK Decay recently and I hadn't heard of two on the second page. New bands to try out

It's an interesting read. Maybe it's my imagination, but Alabama doesn't seem like the kind of place where Goths would be welcomed with open arms. But if you haven't had any problems, then that's great!

Goths get a mixed reception in the midwest.

I was surprised how many Soccer Mom's came up to me when I was all Gothed up at my work's New Years Eve party and said stuff like: "Oh MY! You're very Handsome...Oh wait Beautiful! Do you perfer Beautiful?"

These midwestern housewives were just tickled pink to have a Goth around.

Yeah, I've heard how uptight people can be in both the South and the Midwest. Guess that makes me pretty lucky to be in California. It's really liberal here. How 'bout the UK? I was last there more than 20 years ago but I remember it being pretty liberel there as well, particularly in London.

I haven't spent enough time in either area to know about the weather. Being at my jobsite in Hawaii, though, I have to say the weather here is great! Gotta get back to work now. Talk to you guys later.

I spent a week in North Carolina in July and wanted to die. 99 degrees, 90% humidity. And I thought our summers were bad here in Nevada. Give me our blistering dry heat any day over Southern humidity so bad you need gills to breathe.

Up here it gets hot hot hot(with high humidity as well), but then this is where we beat you, it gets freezing cold cold cold soo cold you'll get frostbite in less than 30 mins outside, kill you in less than an hour if not prepared. Down there such conditions are rare if existant at all.

I expect I'll be staying with my current job through the end of the year. Beyond that, I can't say. I enjoy the job and I enjoy working on the ship but I'm tired of the corporate BS. I'll just have to play it by ear.

Well, at least we're being conversational. Fine, welcome, nice to meet you. My brother lived in Hawaii for a few years.

My real name is Chris but you can use "twink" or "tikigoth". (I think I picked up twink because I'm gay. "tikigoth comes from a collection of Hawaiian and Polynesian tikis I have at home.)

Like I said in my original post, home is in the San Francisco area but I spend most of my time in Hawaii because of my job. I'm a crew member on a cruise ship.

My hobbies include photography and collecting ethnic art.

I'm male.

I don't really miss anything about my childhood.

I studied architecture at a vocational school but it didn't lead anywhere.

I'm not married.

I haven't really given much thought to my funeral. I figure I'll just let my friends honor the occasion however they want.

I don't have a favorite band but I'll be checking out some of the suggestions made in a previous post.

I joined to meet and talk with other people and to do something different. A lot of people I know at home and at work would be surprised to find that I'm doing this. I've always been rather shy and somewhat conservative in my appearance. I just had to let my inner goth out.
