The Dark Knight

It's almost here the second movie in the Christopher Nolan Batman movie series.

Now seeing as how most likely no one here has seen the movie yet (unless some lucky basterd here got tickets to today's New York premiere) there are two questions on the top of my head.

Harvey Dent: since we know he is in this movie do you think two face will be the villan of the next one?

Batman movies of the late 80s-90s versus the new Batman movie series, which one do you like more, or if you don't like either, what don't you like about them?

After the second Batman the whole movie line went to shit. All of them have been simply horrid. The one with the Joker/Poison Ivy/Iceman being THEE worst.

Uh I think you're a bit chronologicaly confused, the Joker was in the first one. I definately can agree with you on the Poison Ivy/ Mr Freeze one being bad. Though I liked the third one with Two face and the Riddler as well as the second one with Catwoman and the Penguin. Though I am sorry to say I have never had a single chance to see the first one, I never even knew there was a Batman movie before the second one untill a few years ago, it's kind of weird.

Yes. In fact, we know this, Nolan announced it.

Nolan's, by far. Of the original Batman film series, only the original movie and its sequel can even be considered barely serviceable, and both pale to Batman Begins. Nolan's reboot, both in its reverence toward the character and generally quality as a cinematic work, improves upon virtually every facet of Burton's 1989 Batman, featuring casting that puts the efforts of whoever told Jack Nicholson he could play the Joker by putting on facepaint and acting like himself to shame, a script that devotes attention to Batman's motives and origin as well as to characters such as Alfred and Gordon, who, though critically important in the character's mythology, were glanced over in earlier adaptations, and a Gotham city that looks more like a populated metropolis than a goffik caricature thereof.

Um. Batman Begins was one of the best superhero movies ever made. That's so inarguable that, if this was /co/, I'd be certain you were trolling. Also, Batman & Robin, the movie featuring Mr. Freeze (not Iceman) and Poison Ivy, didn't involve the Joker.

I am greatly looking forward to this film, and its a shame that its not out till the 24th over here....and knowing me I won't go and see it anyway even though I want to >.>

I also agree that Batman Begins was the best out of all the films, mainly for the reasons Gothicus stated

You know; it isn't very reasonable that you insult someone that corrected you by telling him to see that you have apologized about it after he corrected you. It's not his fault your posts were minutes apart.

Besides, what kind of accusation is to cite the Batman and Robin film to show that Batman movies suck? It's popular knowledge that the Batman and Robin was nothing mroe than a big hour and a half mattel advertisement.

I've been to see it, and can affirmatively say that, if The Dark Knight were 80 years long and maintained its present length to awesome ratio, I could watch that movie for the rest of my life and die without regret.

Dude, what the fuck is your problem?
I said something that is true. Your comment, however, is nothing more than an angsty retaliation fueled by nothing except contempt. I'm pretty sure that is the definition of 'bitching'.

I agree. The original Batman movies back in the '90s pale in comparison to the reboot by far. [Jackie scared me as The Joker back then. x_x;;;]

If it makes you feel better, Tea & Cake, I didn't get that Batman Begins was actually a complete restart of the whole storyline either until a couple of weeks ago when my Beloved explained it to me; that's prolly why I missed the whole point whenever BB came out in the first place. ^^;;; [I am ashamed to call myself 'geek' for not knowing such vital information. ;_;]

Good movie but it wasn't all that dark really, there was a great deal of Slaughter. Won't say a thing more untill after it's released in England for those of you who are tempted to get a sneak peak at the plot.

Seriously... I can't quite articulate to try to even attempt to quantify the amount of awesome that is The Dark Knight.

Seriously, it was the greatest action FILM I've ever seen. It was like Die Hard with some brains if you really pay attention.

I'll try to avoid going on a total rant about how I figured it was more or less an anti-anarchy flick with the joker at least. Until I saw the scene with the ships and was satisfied with the idea that it wasn't demonizing a political lean as it was more or less saying that if something were truly so chaotic, you would see people coming together for the greater good in the end.

The joker struck me as more a crucible for the capacity for human compassion than a maniac. But I may have interpreted the method of the madness just a little off.

So what you're trying to say here is that you're nitpicking and being a dick and aren't happy unless you've something to be unhappy about which is a complete oxymoron in itself anyway? GOD YOU'RE SUCH A DICK.

@ KontanKarite: Well said!

I saw The Dark Knight last night, and saying that I loved it would be an enormous understatement. There is no word to describe how much I liked it. The Joker was, hands down, my favorite character of all.

R.I.P. Heath Ledger.

yeah. oh well.
I wasn't even snapping at Gothicus for the reasons that Jillian thought I was. I was snapping at Gothicus because I was fed up with his condescending attitude in general when all I have tried to do was be nice to him. It really had very little to do with the actual words exchanged in this thread, or Batman, or anything like that. It just got uglier when Jillian got involved. I am sure in time I would have gotten over being mad at Gothicus because I really do like him. He's a smart guy, with a lot going on. I'm not mad at Jillian anymore either. I've just noticed it's in his nature to pick at things. That's fine. He just rubbed me the wrong way at the wrong time. I feel I've said all that I need to about this. It can die now.

Good grief...what happened here.

Anyway, damn I want to see this movie. My theatre didn't get it, so I'll probably end up having to go to our rival. lol.

While arguably the greatest Superhero film made so far (and beyond the shadow of a doubt my favorite) there were a couple of things that bothered me about it.

In trying to figure out what I disliked about it, or which scenes left me feeling slightly bitter in between the pure awesome, I felt that when the Joker or Two Face were not in the scene, Christian Bale's performance was lacking. I was hoping the first time around that it was just because Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart did such an excellent job that he was overshadowed, but in watching it a second time I realized he just didn't seem to do nearly as well as he did in Batman Begins. I'm not sure how to pinpoint it exactly, but it just seemed off.

Also, one thing other thing that irritated me was the voice he used while in the Batman costume. I understand a need to use a separate voice, however, this one was too deep, overly growled, and it sounded like his nose was blocked up. This was to the point that in some parts he was nearly incoherent.

I'm seeing it at noon.

Noon for the even, calculated goffickness of being at precisely 12 o'clock.

The film was fucking insane. Everything about it is incredible. The cinematography, the music, the writing, the mise-en-scene, the performances, everything just works. The Joker is bar none the greatest villain I have ever seen, and I'm not even talking about Ledger's stellar performance, I'm talking about this incarnation of the character, amazingly written. I can't even begin to describe how much I loved that film. The humour especially was just great, proper black comedy at its finest.
