Drop Dead Festival

Who here is going to DDF is Prague this year? I'll be in attendance, and looking forward to meeting people.

If you don't know what Drop Dead Festival is, it's the flagship festival in the Deathrock scene. This year they'll be having bands like Sexgang Children and Norma Loy, as well a complex blend of deathrock, goth, horror punk, psychobilly, and experimental music.

I've been to Drop Dead Festival three times, and it's probably the closest America comes to a real goth festival without all the added semi-goth stuff that normally makes you want to avoid half of what you paid for. It's always a blast, so if you can make it, I hope I'll see you there.

So, who's in?

I think there was already a thread on this, but since it's here, no. I won't be going because c'mon now... fucking Prague!?! I really want to go because of Cinema Strange, Sex Gang Children, and possibly Theatre of Hate, but alas. NY Decay is spreading itself down into Philadelphia with Philly Decay, though. The band I'm a part of is supposed to play there when they get the first one going.

I hear you, I'm just hoping that they get In The Nighttime and Strobelight records to vend, because I'll be working with a diminished CD budget due to airfare and I want to make every CD purchase count.

It's good to hear they're doing a Philly thing, let's hope they do a LA one (again) as well, because I can imagine air fair from there is going to really suck.

That being said, I'm glad they're making it worth it with bands, for everyone who does get to go.

I haven't heard anything about it. If you can find out who's doing the Philly thing, you might be able to swap contacts and arrange something?h

Drop Dead in Prague was a dream come true when it first came to my attention a few months ago. I'd be all set and ready to go if it weren't for BIG SCARY IMPORTANT EXAMS which just happen to be during that exact week. A bunch of my old friends are going, too, and it'll be such a shame to miss out on catching up.

Without a shadow of a doubt I'll be there next year though, wherever on earth it happens to be (I hope it's Prague again, I fucking love that city, but I'll go anywhere for the love of music).

Delicti, have you ever been to Prague before? If not I have to recommend you do some exploration of the city beyond DD. It's such a magical place, I couldn't think of a better city for a deathrock festival. I'm getting all nostaligic now. Argh.

Sorry, it actually is Sexgang Children, Ausgang, etc. Shame you can't make it - if the whole city thing wasn't suddenly subject to change, I'd say start saving for next year now, since Polina always seems to keep getting incredible bands. I *think* it's going to be Prague next year as well, but the decision usually isn't finalized until a couple months after the end of DDF.

I hear you there, one of the people I'm going with is busy trying to get professors to let her take exams another time. It is a real pain to people in college, but it is a lot of fun to being doing something so massive on Halloween. :-)

Not yet, but I'm fully intending on going to the bone church, and buying one of those marionettes that's a skully death with a mohawk. Coolest cultural item *ever*.

Damn. Sex Gang, Ausgang, and word of Theatre of Hate (I think). If they got Rudimentary Peni back together to play there, that would be the slight push I need to swim the freakin' Atlantic to go.

On Halloween I'll be undertaking the massive task of studying for Specialist Mathematics exams, joy! But I'll be listening to Sex Gang Children and thinking of all the lucky people.

Repeat: sounds great! I reckon a Gnet meetup at next year's Drop Dead would be awesome, provided everyone can make it (start saving NOW, Vyvian and Haunted!)

Excellent, excellent. I'm sure you'll find all the right places to go - you can't go wrong with the old Jewish quarter, or any part of the old town really. And don't forget to stock up on absinthe!

I'd sell my soul to attend. But until I get a car and save up some money, it will have to wait. BTW delicti, do you attend deathrock.com forums?

Good goth again! Oh Cicero, that was soo sweet! I can't believe anyone would consider me being invited to any Gnet events. :o I thought I was hated around here; thanks so much for mentioning me and I'll start saving.

I know you'll want to kill me for this, but Lene Lovich was last year. :-p

I'd pay double for the ritual though. :-)

I don't have much interest in Lene, but to see Ausgang and SGC... that would be orgasmic.

No worries, mate. I don't think you're hated here, not by me anyway. Hating over the interwebz is lame. And of course you'd be invited to Gnet events! You're by far the most enthusiastic member here, haha.
